Sample Rim Inspection Procedure

1
Measuring Instrument/Gauge

Sl.N CBL Inspection points WIL method of measurement WIL request to Remarks
o CBL
1 rim circumference (where Ball gauge with Mandrel . Since WIL have If to be checked ,Use
the tire beads rest) robust process and std ball gauge .refer
100 % inspection available for this 100 % inspection WIL method of
dimension at WIL.. ,no need to check measurement in
subsequent slides
2 - O'ring fitting housing Gutter -O ring groove, Use suitable
dimensions Lock ring groove using Profile gauge . method

Machining is programmed from design

CAD coordinates and error free/ proof
process by design
3 Surface defects in the tire Visual No concern
sealing regions on the
wheel

4 Machining defects in the CMM ,Bore micro meter . Suitable method

tapered ring (O'ring sealing
region) Machining is programmed from CAD
coordinates and error free process by
design
5 Angle of the seat regions of Profile gauge Use suitable
the tire beads method

Produced out from tool profiles and
error free process
Tyre seat circumference /Diameter Ball gauge measurement

Tyre seat diameter 635 mm cannot be

measured directly as it is a imaginary
point .

WIL uses Ball tape gage with 24 mm

diameter.

As per the TRA standard, the tapping

diameter is 632.99 mm nominal when
measured with ball gauge having 24
diameter ball.

Tolerance in plus side 0.4 mm and

minus side 0.8 mm (632.99+0.4/-0.8)

So

Upper specification is :633.39 mm Lower

specification is 632.19mm

Equal values of
circumference((multiply the
diameter by Pi(3.14159)) 632.99+0.4/-0.8mm
Upper Specification is 1989.85 mm Lower
Specification is1986.08mm

4
Ball gauge -Mandrel diameter confirmation

Mandrel showing 633.00 mm diameter

equal to 1988.628 mm circumference.

While measuring the rims with this ball

Gauge ,zero zero coincidence
of main scale and vernier
scale means the rim TSD is 633 mm
(1988.628mm circumference )
Every 1 division is equal 1 mm in main scale&
0.1 mm in Vernier scale
5
if Vernier scale zero goes this side ,
we should add the no of divisions with
if Vernier scale zero goes this side , mandrel circumference value
we should substract the no of divisions
from mandrel circumference value

6
Tyre seat circumference sample measurements –RBWD

Actual tyre seat measurement shows 1 mm offset from zero position on plus
side Which means “Mandrel circumference value +1 mm”

Mandrel value :1988.628 (Circumference )

Actual circumference=:Mandrel Value +1 mm =1988.628+1=1989.628 mm
Equivalent Diameter of 1989.628 mm =(1989.628/3.14159)
Actual diameter =633.32 mm

Specification

Lower Specification Limit -  6 3 2 . 1 9 mm (1986.08 mm)

Upper Specification Limit -  6 3 3 . 3 9 mm (1989.85 mm

7
Tyre seat circumference sample measurements –Demounting Flange

Actual tyre seat measurement shows 0.5 mm offset from zero position on plus
side Which means “Mandrel value +0.5 mm”

Mandrel value :1988.628 (Circumference )

Actual circumference =Mandrel Value +1 mm =1988.628+0.5=1989.128 mm
Equivalent Diameter of 1989.128 mm =(1989.128/3.14159)
Actual diameter =633.15 mm

Specification

Lower Specification Limit -  6 3 2 . 1 9 mm (1986.08 mm

) Upper Specification Limit -  6 3 3 . 3 9 mm (1989.85
mm )
