Cotton:
Cotton is the soft and fluffy materials that come from some plants. Cotton is define
as a plant or the soft cloud like substance that come from shrubby plant and is used to make

Regions of cotton:
Cotton grows in warm climates and most of the world’s cotton is
grown in the U.S., Uzbekistan, the people’s republic of China and India. Other leading cotton
producing countries are Brazil, Pakistan and Turkey.

Cotton fibres length of different growing regions:[1]

Far west. Cotton length (32’s)=37.3

Southwest. Cotton length (32’s)=34.6 -36.1

Midsouth. Cotton length (32’s)= 37.1- 37.7

Southeast Cotton length (32’s)= 36.4-36.8

Properties of Cotton Fiber:[2]

 Fiber Surface and Color: Lustrous/ Creamy White color/ yellowish

 Tensile Strength: Tenacity = 28~45 Gram/Tex
 Elongation: Not easily stretch Elongation at Break = 5-10 %
 Specific Gravity: 1.54
 Effect of Moisture: Moisture Regain = 8.
 Effect of Heat: Excellent Resistance
 Effect of Age: Small loss of strength when stored
 Effect of Sunlight: Gradual loss of strength when exposure to sunlight, major
 effect by Ultra-violet light
 Effect of Acids: Dissolved by hot dilute or cold concentrated

Categorizes of Pakistani cotton:

 MNH-93 (Cotton of Punjab region)

 NAYYAB-78 (Cotton of Sindh region)
 Organic Cotton
 BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) Cotton

Properties of Pakistani cotton:[3]

 Length: 27.36 mm

 Uniformity: 6.3 %

 Short fiber Index(SFI): 8.5 %

 Strength: 31.9 g/tex

 Elongation: 3.45 %

 Mic(micronaire) value: 4.70 c
