Well for starters, if I understood the question correctly an educational philosophy and
psychology that dictates my current beliefs about education in general and special education
would be each kid is capable to learn. Whether they have a disability or not. Every kid is capable
to learn but some do not learn at the same rate. That’s why there are different learning materials
and strategies for every kid who struggles. A current understanding of special education in the
school system that I understand is that all public schools provide special education at no cost. I
also know issues that they do have which are technical difficulties, parent support, extra support,
etc. My knowledge of historical events for people with disabilities is that throughout history
people with a disability would get treated differently. This could be from being mentally,
physically, and verbally abused. They did not get an equal education as the rest. Every kid
deserves to have an equal education. No one should be treated poorly just because they have a
disability. An experience that I have working with children would be my sibling's kids that I
would tutor from time to time. I also have a niece who has down syndrome that I would help.
When I started tutoring my nieces and nephews that’s the moment I realize I wanted to be a
teacher because seeing their enjoyment when they would understand a certain subject they would
get them excited. Another experience that I have working with kids was my first semester in
college where I got to observe kids virtually. It was my first experience and I loved it! I enjoyed
seeing their little faces and getting to know them and how well they did in school. Working with
young children was a bit emotional. I love kids and seeing them the struggle is emotional
because since they’re young their first instinct is to give up or say they can’t do it. That’s where I
come out wanting to motivate them and push them because I know they can do it. I remember
helping my niece who was in her virtual class and notice how she would get distracted a lot. Not
only her but the rest of her class too but since she has a teacher and a teacher aide they would

have this toy that would grab their attention. It was pretty cool because she would call someone
out from the class to answer a question and if they got it wrong or right this toy would play a
sound and they would love it. This would make them want to participate. I also remember my
Field observation teacher had about three IEP students who she supported extra help for them. I
learned a lot from my field observation teacher. She would have these reading, writing, and math
groups where she would place one of her low students in each group with one of her high
students so they could help each other out and perhaps stay focused. I wish to pursue a career in
teaching because I want to make a difference. I don’t want kids to give up or say they can’t do
something. I want to teach my kids that it’s okay to fail. I want to be a special education teacher
because I want to make an impact in their lives. I would like to see the kid's accomplishment and
excitement when being an educator. A favorite educator of mine would be a teacher in my high
school who wasn’t my teacher but helped me with a lot in school. This teacher was so kind and
caring. A lot of kids would disrespect her or even make fun of her but she never got upset. With
all the hurtful things they would tell her she would still bring in snacks, drinks, materials, food,
etc for them when they needed it. This teacher was my favorite teacher because she wouldn’t
give up on kids. She would push them and motivate them to do the thing she knew they could. At
the end of the day, they realized that she was right and apologized for their action. Not only did
she do this but she also helped kids in a difficult situation she would have them talk about their
conflict and see what she could do to make it better. This teacher also made share everyone was
treated equally in her classroom. She made sure no one was left out and that everyone
participated. This teacher showed patience, a positive attitude, caring, and engagement.
Educators like this serve as models in the community because they’re teaching kids the
importance of being caring and patient with themselves and other people. Being there for kids

who are going through difficult situations also is important because it lets them know that their
teacher's class is a safe zone where they can talk about how they are feeling. My understanding
of diversity in a classroom and schools would be having proper educational services for them
that extra support that they need. Another thing is that some kids with a disability never get to a
regular class. Some graduate high school and are off to college and some dropout. An appropriate
dress and appearance for educators would be a business casual, positive attitude, and prepared.
The strengths that I believe that I would have as a future educator would be patience, dedication
to teaching, caring, creativity, and the ability to connect with kids. I may need to develop
technological skills and maybe the nervousness of speaking in front of a crowd. To promote
cooperation between me, my peers, and colleagues would be an active listener, speak directly,
and maintain a positive team spirit. To move forward in my understanding of special education I
need to improve on many skills and participate in and volunteer anything that has to do with
kids.
