Customer Storage and Handling Guideline
Customer Storage and Handling Guideline
CONTENTS
1.2 Delivery
The packaging material will be delivered in "small" or "jumbo" reels on one way
pallets. Normally the packaging material reel is wrapped in protective shrink film. The
individually wrapped reels are stacked on pallets. A hood of shrink film or a stretch
film is protecting the reel stack on a pallet against moisture and dirt. In this way the
reels are also secured to the pallet. With customer agreements the reels can be
delivered without the protective films.
Pallets can be stacked on top of each other, maximum 4 pallets with a maximum total
height of 5.3 m. A protection sheet is strongly advised to be used between the pallets.
Be careful when lifting the pallets and reels - do not scratch the other reels.

To ensure that the properties of the material are not changed it is vital to follow the
storage and handling routine of materials. A too low or a too high RH or temperature
can modify functional properties that can lead to unsterility of package.
1.4 Handling
Every packaging material pallet is stored in an
allocated section for Pack Mat products. Use a special
lifting/turning truck to handle the reels. The maximum
allowed number of pallets to be stacked on top of each
other is 4, without surpassing 5.3 metres high (from
floor to top). This will depend on the packing
alternatives (layers/pallet) used. It is important to
have the maximum possible number of reels per
pallet (i.e. 5 layers for TB/TBA 1000 ml).
2.2 Delivery
The cartons are delivered in parcels on one way pallets. A hood of shrink film or a
stretch film is protecting the parcels against moisture and dirt. In this way the parcels
are also secured to the pallet. Pallets must not be stacked on top of each other.

Storage conditions:
Temperature: 15° - 25°C
Relative humidity (RH): 30 % – 60 %
Minimum storage time*: 5 days
*longer period necessary if stored under extreme circumstances prior to conditioning.
Partly used material shall be relabelled with its identification label and wrapped with a
protected film. The blanks shall be stored in accordance with this recommendation.

3 Additional Material
3.1 Introduction
To ensure that the properties of the material are not changed, it is vital to follow the
storage and handling recommendation of packaging material and additional material.
3.2 Delivery
The additional material is delivered in boxes/bags.
Care should be taken to avoid fluctuation in storage temperature as this may cause
condensation. If the additional materials are moved from an area with different
temperature, the wrapping shall not be opened until the additional material has
reached the surrounding temperature (min 24h).
Straws
Temperature: 10–40°C
Relative humidity (RH): < 80%
Caps
Temperature: 10-40°C, except Carton Gable Top which has 5-35°C
Relative humidity (RH): < 80%
Molding materials
Temperature: 10–40°C
Relative humidity (RH): 10–65%
Variations from recommended temperature during a short period (4 to 5 days) have
no noteworthy effect on the materials, if the material is re-temporised for at least the
same time period as it have been out of above spec.
Partly used additional material shall be relabelled with its identification label and
wrapped with a protected film.
3.4 Handling
Pallets of LS strip can be stacked maximum one pallet
on top of each other (two levels) when stored at
recommended storage conditions.
Pallets of IS, OS and tab strip should not be stacked on
top of each others. The maximum allowed number of
pallets for cap, straw, mold material and spoon to be
stacked on top of each other should be specified by the
Supplier.
Always align the pallets to avoid damages when handling product from adjacent
columns.
Additional material pallets are stored and handled also on metal racks.
4 Wooden Pallets
Regarding off-flavour from wooden pallets and container flooring treated with
fungicide agents, read more >>.
When the relative humidity is too high, material will soften and the clean, sharp
creasing can be affected. Condensation can also form, increasing the rate of
absorption into trays and boxes.
Do:
- Transport on a hand pallet truck or on a power pallet truck.
- Protect from dust and dampness.
- Store flat, on pallets.
- Protect corners when using straps.
- Protect an opened package when production ends for the day.
Do not:
- Step on the corrugated cardboard.
- Drag or drop on the floor.
- Store on edges.
- Stack palletized loads.
- Cut plastic straps holding the package together until the cardboard is going to be
used.
The cut edges of the tray must be free from raggedness and snags.
The pre-creasing must be accurate so that the cardboard fold easily and does not
tear.
During handling in transit, the material should be protected from dampness, impacts,
and dirt. It should be stacked on pallets in a manner ensuring that the total height is
not excessive.
