SIMULATION GROUP PROJECT

1/ Data collection
This model is about the production line of BOPP (Biaxially oriented polypropylene) film which is used in
food packaging and is replacing cellophane in applications such as snack and tobacco packaging due to
favorable properties and low cost. The process includes: Sources Mixing, Plastic Extrusion, Stretching (in
transverse and machine direction), Cutting and Winding, Incubation, Splitting and then Packaging.

First, the plastic beads are mixed with additives and plastic scrap in a certain ratio to produce BOPP
mixture. Secondly, the mixture will go through the Extrusion Machine for being extruded into thick film. Then
the film will continue to TDO (Transverse Direction Orientation) and MDO (Machine Direction Orientation)
stretching machines to stretch into a flat plate. After finishing stretching into the maximum, the blade at the
end of the line cut film into 8m horizontally. The cutout becomes plastic scrap and will be recycled back into
the mixing process. Then, the film is wrapped around a reel and is transferred to incubation. All of these
processes must be kept continuously running.

After 8-day-incubation, it is slitted according to the requested dimensions. The cutout here also
becomes plastic scrap and is recycled back into the mixing process. Finally, it is packaged and becomes
completed product. Usually, factory will produce an average of 1000 tons products in a month
