1. Effectiveness of Using Calculators: An Implication to Students

Mathematical Solving Skills
2. Two Key Points: Calculator; Math ability
3. Explain why these two key points are interesting to you as a student of your strand.
 For me, these key points are interesting because in using calculator will make it
easier for students to solve the Mathematical solving. Also, students need to have
access to the calculator in order to familiarize themselves with its operations.
Lastly, we can rely on our calculator to help us through some pretty challenging
in solving but not too much.

ACTIVITY 2

1. List of Research problem

 Most of students in our campus are weak in solving.
 Students used pencil and paper to solve basic mathematical solving.

2. Proof of relevance
 According to Goos and Bennison (2008), it was found that the majority of
teachers agreed that technology makes calculators quicker and help students
understand concepts.
 The number of students that showing a high-level learning in Mathematics are just
few that is why teachers are finding ways to improve the learning and solving
skill of the students (Hutchison,2006).

3. Possible duplication
• According to Goos and Bennison (2008), it was found that the majority of
teachers agreed that technology makes calculators quicker and help students understand
concepts.
• The number of students that showing a high-level learning in Mathematics are just
few that is why teachers are finding ways to improve the learning and solving skill of the
students (Hutchison,2006).

ACTIVITY 3

1. Two potential research problem

 The difficulties in Solving Mathematical equations (personal experience)
 Lack of knowledge in appropriate use of calculators (contemporary issues)
2. Research Question
 How can the use of calculator helps the students to lessen in solving hardest
Mathematical equations?
 How is the use of calculators in Mathematics Classroom related to the student’s
solving skills?

3. Significance
This research is crucial and helpful for the following:
To the Students, because they are one of the factors in carrying out this analysis and
can apply this in their ongoing education as well. The Teachers, were also able to enforce
the correct use of calculators in the Mathematical classroom, especially during their
evaluation. For Parents, to know the effect of using calculators to develop their children’s
Mathematical solving skills. Finally, to the Researchers, are able to consider other
situations that may allow them to notice and recommend certain solutions or advice based
on their analysis.

4. The purpose of this study is to seek information in the student’s lack of knowledge about
the use of calculators. In solving Mathematical skills that the students are having a hard
time to solve. This study is important and beneficial to the learners because they can
apply this in their education. Also, to the teachers, able to implement the right use of
calculators in Math Classes. And to the researchers to be able to help them notice such
solutions on their study. So how can the use of calculator help us to improve our
Mathematical skill and also in our classroom? Students must be aware of the research
question like this.

ACTIVITY 4

1. Background Study
The use of calculators in Mathematic classroom is widespread. Many educators,
agencies, and organizations promote the use of calculators in Mathematics teaching.
They assume that the use of calculators will minimize solving and teaching time, but
it will also improve the student’s mental and written Math skills.

The usage of calculators will enhance the Math achievement of the study (Thompson,
2009). When using calculators, it is easier to discuss math lessons because every
student can understand what the teacher is explaining. Using it can make the solutions
easier for the students to understand

This shows that the use of calculators increases student’s performance at almost
levels and that students who use calculators shows a more positive attitude towards
Mathematics than those who do not. (Hembree & Descart, 1906)
It indicates that students who use calculators seems to have a stronger attitude
towards Mathematics and a better Mathematical self-concept than their peers who
have not used calculators. (Miles 2008), observed that the students who do use
calculators perform better than those students who do not use calculators on solving
basic Mathematical equations, when solving simple life skill Mathematical problems.

2. Statement of the problem

This study is to find information to the students that have a complicated mind when
it comes in solving especially when there’s no calculators with them. They do not
wish to research the accuracy of calculators, which leads them to an emptiness of
their calculator history. Also, they are difficult to determine if the use of calculators in
Mathematics classes affects a student’s ability to solve basic Mathematical equation.

3. General objective:
To examine the current procedures in the Mathematics with regard to the
calculator.
Specific objectives of the study:
1. To describe the usage of calculators in Mathematics lesson of the students.
2. To identify the basic uses of a calculator.
