This course aims to provide the students awareness of the Philippine heritage which make up the culture of the Filipinos as a people (CMO 75, s. 2017). Through this
course, the students will appreciate the lifestyle of the Filipinos, their beliefs, tradition, mores, dreams, ideals and hopes. Furthermore, through the literary pieces which are the
products of the Filipinos who come ahead of them, the students, through the different literary genres will be able to realize that they are Filipinos and that they have to appreciate
and be proud of what is to be a Filipino.
At the end of the course, the learners are to: 1) Assess the relevance of Philippine literature in their lives as Filipinos. 2) Examine the genres and periods of Philippine
literature ; 3) Differentiate the basic elements and structures of fiction, drama/play, poetry, essay, etc.; 4) Evaluate the literary works discussed in class ; 5 )value the meaning and
use of literary terms; 6) compose written literary works such as spoken poetry, essay, etc.; and; 7)produce an anthology of local folktales.
Through (2.3.1.1) the promotion of Filipino historical and cultural heritage (4.3.1.1) a true NOrSUnian with the core values of SAPPHIRE (2.1.1.1)will be able to effectively
communicate ideas through oral and written forms using English and Filipino languages.
