LABORATORY EXERCISE 2: CELLULAR ORGANIZATION

Activity 1:
1. Mitochondria- generate the chemical energy needed to power the cell’s biochemical
reactions.
2. Lysosome- degrading and recycling waste.
3. Smooth endoplasmic reticulum- synthesize lipids, phospholipids as in plasma membrane
and steroids.
4. Peroxisome- involved in lipid biosynthesis, important for the synthesis of plasmalogens
5. Plasma membrane- provides protection for a cell
6. Centriole- assist cell division, reaction of cilia and flagella on the cell structure
7. Microvilli- folds of the plasma membrane that increase the surface area of the cell
8. Flagella- long cell projection; whip like motion moves sperm.
9. Cilia- abundant hair like cell projections hat move fluids and particles.
10. Vesicle- help transport materials
11. Nucleus- control center of the cell
12. Nuclear envelope- surrounds and protects nucleus.
13. Nucleolus- most conspicuous domain in the eukaryotic cell nucleus.
14. Cytosol- serves several functions within a cell.
15. Ribosome- cell structure that makes protein
16. Rough endoplasmic reticulum- serves many general function, transport of synthesized
proteins in vesicle to the Golgi apparatus.
17. Golgi apparatus- responsible for packaging into vesicles.

Activity 2:
1. Skeletal Muscle fiber and Nuclei of Skeletal muscle tissue and the situations of the
muscle fiber.
2. Cell body, nucleus, axon, dendrite and the nuclei of neuroglia cells.
3. Red blood cells and white blood cells.
4. Platelets

Activity 3:
1. Interphase
2. Prophase
3. Metaphase
4. Anaphase
5. Cytokinesis

9. fluid from the extracellular compartment is depleted first, followed by fluid from the
intracellular space. Fluid loss from the intracellular space results in cellular shrinkage
and metabolic disfunction.
10. Hypertonic dehydration occurs when an individual excretes too much water without
also excreting electrolytes leaving the fluid that surrounds the cell.
