collaborative learning sessions to solve shared challenges encountered in school”
Kinder to grade 3 teachers conducted our 1st Lac Session fr=or the school year 2020-
2021.
It started with a prayer followed by the national anthem. Mrs. Florida F. Sumugat, Principal IV
gave an opening remarks and reminders.
The first topic was Phonemic awareness which discussed by Ms. Ailyn Q. Vidal. Before she
starts, she let the participants produce the sound s of every letter flash on the screen. Teachers are
eager and enjoyed. She also gives activity per grade level by answering what is phonemic
awareness? Teachers are actively participated the given task. Each group presents their works.
And it concludes that phonemic awareness is understanding that words are made up of sounds or
phonemes. The manipulation of sounds phonemes in spoken words.
Every grade level should master the skills in order to read. Fist with Preschool, they are
fund of imitating and enjoying the rhymes and alliteration, by counting syllables. Kindergarten,
they begin to produce a sound, they can also segmenting, deleting, compound words, blending
sounds in two or three phonemes. For grade 1, they can segment words, substitute phonemes to
make a new words. Grade 2, thay can expand phonemic awareness to tackle words with blends.
For the grade 3, they can extend deletion skills to individual phonemes in blends.
Phonemic awareness is important because it helps learner to read and spell. Also, they
understand the alphabetic principle and notice the regular ways that the letter represents sounds
in words.
