NARRATIVE REPORT
10th SLAC SESSION
The LAC session started at exactly 8:00 in the morning and facilitated by Grade two
teachers who prepared the program for that day. Mrs. Ailyn Q. Vidal, our facilitator talked
about Drill Method. Drill Method is a technique used to practice language and involves the
teacher pronouncing a word or a sentence and by repeatedly chanting it so that it can easily be
remembered. Mrs. Vidal also discussed that there are two kinds of drills namely: Choral Drill
and Substitution Drill. Choral drill means choral answer while substitution drill is changing one
letter of a word to form another word. She also gives different techniques that we can use in our
teaching like spelling drill, jazz chant, poem recitation and rhymes.
Mrs. Florida F. Sumugat, school principal, showed and gave some tips on doing the drill
method. 10 words should be use for 1 week to have mastery. It should be done before the start of
the lesson in order to catch the attention of the learners. In making flashcards we should
remember to write the word at the back.
The first thing that a teacher should remember in conducting a drill is to first read the
word. Next, is the teacher should ask the learners to repeat the words after saying it. Then, the
teachers let the learners read it by themselves independently. Learners will read the word and
spell the word. Finally, the teacher let the learners spell the words without looking at the
flashcards. Also, Mrs. Sumugat reminded the teachers about the proper the position of the
flashcards and should be placed not lower than the chest portion.
With this session, we are enlightened about the importance of drill method in our lesson.
It could be our bridge in our lesson.
