1. What is tectonic plate?

-The outermost part of the Earth’s structure is known as the lithosphere. The lithosphere
consists of the crust and small portion of the upper mantle. The lithosphere is divided into a
number of tectonic plates.

2. What are the following Plates present around the world? Describe each and
attached an image.
*Earth’s surface

- The outermost level of the land or sea "earthquakes originate far below the surface"; "three
quarters of
the Earth's
surface is
covered by
water".

relatively
thin sheet
like expanse
or region
lying over or
under
another.

*Tectonic plates
- A tectonic plate (also called lithospheric
plate) is a massive,
irregularly shaped
slab of solid rock,
generally
composed of both
continental and
oceanic
lithosphere.

*Earth’s crust
- The Earth's
crust is
an extremely thin layer of rock that makes up the outermost solid shell of our planet. In relative
terms, its thickness is like that of the skin of an apple. It amounts to less than half of 1 percent of
the planet's total mass but plays a vital role in most of Earth's natural cycles.

*Mantle
- The mantle is the mostly-solid bulk of Earth's interior. The mantle lies between Earth's dense, super-
heated core and its thin outer layer, the crust.

*Lithosphere
- The lithosphere is the solid, outer part of the Earth. The lithosphere includes the brittle upper
portion of the mantle and the crust, the outermost layers of Earth's structure.

* Oce

crust
- The outermost layer of Earth's lithosphere that is found under the oceans and formed at
spreading center’s on oceanic ridges, which occur at divergent plate boundaries. ...
Earth's lithosphere and upper mantle. A cross section of Earth's outer layers, from
the crust through the lower mantle.

3. What is the importance of knowing the following plates around your area and
what could be the possible effect of that in humanity?

-Life needs more than water alone. Recent discoveries suggest that plate tectonics has played a
critical role in nourishing life on Earth. The findings carry major consequences for the search for
life elsewhere in the universe.
