LABORATORY EXERCISE NO. 12
CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM: HEART

Name: Santiago, Prancheska Abigayle P. Section: 12 Date Submitted: Nov. 11, 2020

I. INTRODUCTION
The heart is the major organ of the cardiovascular system which pumps oxygenated
blood to the different organs of the body through its systemic circuit and loads the
deoxygenated blood via the pulmonary circuit?

II. GIVE THE MAJOR FUNCTIONS OF THE HEART

The major function of heart is to pump blood throughout our body, it supplies oxygen,
nutrients ,and removes carbon dioxide.

III. Anatomy of the heart

Misplaced labels (4):

1. Left common carotid

artery
2. Left subclavian artery
3. Left pulmonary veins
4. Left pulmonary arteries
5. Descending aorta
6. Inferior vena cava
7. Trabeculae carneae
8. Chordae tendineae

IV. ASSESSMENT
True/False

Indicate whether the sentence or statement is true or false.

FALSE 1. The superior vena cava is also known as the anterior vena cava.

FALSE 2. There are two pulmonary veins that return oxygenated blood to the left atrium of the heart
from the lungs.

TRUE 3. Arteries are thicker and stronger than veins with two major properties: elasticity and
contractility.

TRUE 4. Venous sinuses are veins with thin walls.

FALSE 5. The right and left coronary arteries deliver oxygenated blood to the lungs.

TRUE 6. The radial and ulnar arteries supply blood to the forearm.

FALSE 7. There are ten pairs of intercostal arteries that supply the muscles of the thorax.

Completion

Complete each sentence or statement.

8. SYSTEMIC circulation is the circulation of oxygenated blood from the left ventricle of the heart to all
body tissues and organs.

9. PULMONARY circulation is the circulation of deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle of the heart
to the lungs and back to the left atrium of the heart.

10. Microscopic blood vessels made up of simple squamous epithelial cells that connect arterioles with
venules are known as CAPILLARIES.

11. The small blood vessels that connect capillaries to veins are called VENULES.

12. The smaller arteries that deliver blood to capillaries are called ARTERIOLE.

13. The CORONARY ARTERIES are the vessels that branch off the ascending aorta and supply the walls of
the heart with oxygenated blood.

14. The ventricles have irregular ridges and folds of the myocardium called TRABECULAE CARNEAE.

15. The muscle tissue of the atria and ventricle is separated by connective tissue; a groove called the
CORONARY SULCUS separates the atria from the ventricles.
