To publish a SharePoint site

1. In the console tree of ISA Server Management, click Firewall Policy.

2. On the Tasks tab, click Publish SharePoint Sites.
3. In the SharePoint Publishing Rule Wizard, follow the on-screen instructions.

Notes

 To open ISA Server Management, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft
ISA Server, and then click ISA Server Management.
 For ISA Server 2006 Enterprise Edition, expand Microsoft Internet Security and
Acceleration Server 2006, expand Arrays, right-click Array_Name, and then click
Properties.
 For ISA Server 2006 Standard Edition, expand Microsoft Internet Security and
Acceleration Server 2006, right-click Server_Name, and then click Properties.

Important

 This wizard helps you publish one or more SharePoint sites. The sites may be hosted on
one server, or on server farms.
 Authentication between ISA Server and Windows SharePoint Services is automatically
configured to use the NTLM authentication protocol, although the user can authenticate
to ISA Server using various protocols. Always use NTLM delegation for Windows
SharePoint Services.
 ISA Server always forwards the client’s original http host header to Windows SharePoint
Services. This information, which shows the zone that the remote client is coming from,
is used by alternate access mapping in Windows SharePoint Services.
 After you click Apply in the details pane, the policy is updated. The new policy applies
only to new connections.
 To complete the configuration of this Windows SharePoint Services publishing rule, you
may need to configure alternate access mapping on the published SharePoint server with
the public name of the site and the client connection type

To configure alternate access mapping for SharePoint Services

Some links created by Windows SharePoint Services and SharePoint Portal Server will not be
translated correctly by ISA Server link translation. For this reason, you should configure
alternate access mapping:
 If you are publishing Windows SharePoint Services, configure alternate access mapping
on Windows SharePoint Services.
 If you are publishing SharePoint Portal Server, in SharePoint Portal Server configure
Windows SharePoint Services alternate access mapping.

See the following SharePoint documents for detailed instructions on how to configure alternate
access mapping:

 Windows SharePoint Services: See the topic "Support for Reverse Proxy, Alternate URL,
and SSL Termination" at the Microsoft Office Online Web site
(http://www.microsoft.com)
 SharePoint Portal Server: Deploying SharePoint Portal Server 2003 on an Extranet
(http://www.microsoft.com)

Important

 We recommend that you use the default ISA Server SharePoint publishing rule
configuration that enables the forwarding of the original host header to the SharePoint
Portal server. This will enable SharePoint to differentiate between external requests, for
which it will provide translated links, and internal requests, for which it will provide
internal links.
 ISA Server supports the publishing of SharePoint Portal Server with Service Pack 2
(SP2) and Windows SharePoint Services with SP2.

Notes

 For more information about alternate access mapping in SharePoint Portal Server, see the
Microsoft Office Online Web site (http://www.microsoft.com).
