Course Description
This course deals with the concepts,
principles, techniques of history taking, head to
toe physical examination and psychosocial
assessment using various tools and interpretation
of laboratory
findings to arrive at a nursing diagnosis. The
learners are expected to perform holistic nursing
assessment of an individual adult client.
Learning objectives:
At the end of the lecture, the learner will be able to
1.Integrate relevant concepts and principles of
Anatomy and physiology in health assessment.
2.Discuss the concepts, principles and techniques
of health assessment.

Nurse’s Role In Health Assessment: Nursing Diagnosis
Analysis of data (often called nursing diagnosis) is the second phase of the nursing
Collecting and Analyzing Data process.

A Nursing Diagnosis is defined by the North American Nursing Diagnosis

Association (NANDA, 2012–2014) as “a clinical judgment about individuals, family
or community responses to actual and potential health problems and life
processes. A nursing diagnosis provides the basis for selecting nursing interventions
to achieve outcomes for which the nurse is accountable.”
