Waste management rules were notified in 2016 for six streams namely municipal solid waste,
plastic waste, construction and demolition (C&D) waste, hazardous waste, e-waste and bio-medical
waste. Take stringent action against illegal dumping in water bodies and low-lying areas and open
burning of solid waste. Enable door-to-door collection, GPS enabled transportation and segregated
neighbourhood storage. West Bengal has also formed a State Level Committee on Solid Waste
Management for effective implementation of the Waste Management Rules 2016.

2.domestic sewage management plan -The main processes involve removing as much of the solid
material as possible, and then using biological processes to convert the remaining soluble
material into a floc that entraps any remaining fine solids and which can then be settled as a
sludge, leaving a liquid substantially free of solids, and with a greatly reduced concentration of
pollutants. Out of the total 43 existing sewage treatment plants (STPs) in West Bengal, 7 comply to
the discharge norms and remaining 36 do not

3. : AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT PLAN-West Bengal has seven non-attainment cities (NACs) under
the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), namely, Kolkata, Howrah, Barrackpore, Haldia, Asansol,
Raniganj and Durgapur. durgapur has air quality monitoring stations under the national air quality
monitoring programme.

4. WATER QUALITY MANAGEMENT PLAN- Durgapur city get water from DAMODAR river which come
from Jharkhand. On pollution due to idol immersion, the Government of West Bengal notified the
West Bengal Prevention and Control of Water Pollution (procedure for Immersion of Idol after Pujas)
Rules in September 2018.

5.industrial wastewater management plan-Rain water harvesting has been initiated by Durgapur
Steel Plant. .The reservoir has the capacity to collect additional quantity of water during rainy
season. The additional quantity of water so collected is being utilized through out the year for
industrial purposes.
