MUSHROOM PRODUCTION UNIT
(With an Investment of Rs. 1,00,000/-)

Mushrooms have long been appreciated due to their taste, delicacy as well as
nutritional and medicinal properties. They are the answer to the protein
malnutrition and save for the food as well as economic security. The required
training on mushroom production is given by OUAT, Bhubaneswar/ KVKs/Sate
Govt.

OBJECTIVE-

1. To produce 500 beds of mushroom ( each bed yields- 1.0 kg) per month.
2. To generate an income of Rs. 17,487/- per month
REQUIREMENT FOR MUSHROOM PRODUCTION UNIT
A. LAND AND BUILDING-
Four rooms will be constructed for the mushroom production unit.
Mushroom Production Shed =1 no. = 30’ X 15’= 450 sq ft
Straw Immersion Tank = 1 nos. = 5’ X 4’ X 3’ = 60 cubic ft.
B. EQUIPMENT/ MACHINERIES AND ACCESSORIES
1. Heating Drum- To sterilize the paddy straw.
2. Thermo hygrometer- For measuring air temperature and humidity.
3. Chaff cutter- To cut the chaffs in required size.
4. Weighing Balance- To measure the quantity of straw.
5. Bamboo-used to construct the racks for mushroom bed production.
ACTION PLAN
1. The project can be set up only from loan from any bank.
2. Construction of the building should be completed within six months with
electricity connection and water supply.
3. Purchase of equipment and machineries with required accessories along
with the raw materials are to be purchased within one month after
completion of the civil work.
4. The entrepreneur must be experienced/trained on Mushroom Spawn
Production at Tropical Mushroom Research and Training, Department of
Plant Pathology, College of Agriculture, OUAT, Bhubaneswar- 751003 or
any KVKs or by State Govt.
5. Mushroom production will start after setting up the mushroom
production unit and purchase of required materials.

YIELD AND ANTICIPATED INCOME FROM MUSHROOM CULTIVATION


PER MONTH
1. Paddy straw mushroom= 250 beds
2. Yield of fresh mushroom @ 1kg/bed= 250 Kg
3. Gross income @ Rs. 150/Kg (as per market)= 250X150= Rs. 37,500
Net income = Rs. 37,500 – Recurring cost - depreciation @ 10 % 0f Rs. 81,500 –
interest for Rs. 1,00,000 (10%) = 37,500 – 18,500 – 680 – 833 = Rs. 17,487
(Rupees fourteen thousand and nine hundred thirty four rupees only)
