Consumer is the key to
Circular Economy!
International E-Waste Day was developed in 2018 by
the WEEE** Forum to raise the public profile of WEEE
recycling and encourage consumers to recycle their
WEEE with the resulting increase in WEEE recycling
rates on the day itself and into the future.
According to the UN, in 2021 each person on the
planet will produce on average 7.6 kg of e-waste,
meaning that a massive 57.4 million tonnes will be
generated worldwide. Only 17.4% of this electronic
waste containing a mixture of harmful substances
and precious materials will be recorded as being
properly collected, treated and recycled.

E-Waste Day
The Coronavirus outbreak has had a perceptible
effect on our use of electronics and digital solutions,
with people relying on e-products to keep them
connected with work colleagues and in their family
and social life. This has not only meant a greater use
of technology in the home, it has also lead to an
increase in the consumption of e-products.
This year’s International E-Waste Day will focus on
the crucial part each of us has in making circularity
a reality for electronic products.

E-Waste Day

Indonesia is the fourth-most-populous country
and one of the largest electronics consumers
in the world. As a result, it has a sizeable share
of used electronics and electrical equipment,
known as e-waste.
EwasteRJ aims to initiate “National E-waste Day” as a
catalyst for public participation nationwide in proper
e-waste management. The scope of this activity is
awareness-raising activities and e-waste collection in
select cities in Indonesia, conducted in collaboration with
government and non-government stakeholders.

The urgency to conduct National E-Waste Ultimate Goal

Day due to the estimation of e-waste generation
in Indonesia is 1,618,000 tons/year and for the 2 ton e-waste
past 5 years the EwasteRJ has only been able to
collect circa 5 tons of e-waste. Only 0.01% have 200 dropper
been collected from total potential e-waste in
this country.
