Instructions for Updating FTDI Drivers

Introduction

Two FTDI drivers are used with the Philips USB recorder. These instructions are to update PIIC iX with
Windows 7 on an rp5800 PC from version 2.8.14 drivers to version 2.12.16 drivers.

Prerequisites

PIIC iX Surveillance/OverView with Windows 7 on an rp5800 PC, using FTDI version 2.8.14 drivers.

USB recorder connected to PC and powered on.

USB stick with a folder labeled FTDI, containing the following 2 zip files:

CDMUninstallerGui.zip and PhilipsFTDI.zip.

Installation Prep

-Copy CDMUninstallerGui.zip and PhilipsFTDI.zip. files to a folder labeled FTDI on the USB drive.

-Right click on each zip file and Extract All, so that new folders are created with the appropriate
contents.

-You should now have two sub-folders: CDMUninstallerGui and PhilipsFTDI. Each will contain
the files you need to perform the Uninstall and the Install.

Uninstall Drivers

At Surveillance/OverView desktop, use Alt-F4 to stop PIIC iX application and then login as
PhilipsFieldEngr with the appropriate user password. Once complete, you will be at the OS desktop.

Go to the drive where you USB stick is located and open the ‘CDMunistallerGUI’ folder.

Double click on CDMUninstaller application. This will open a window titled: CDM Uninstaller

Look for the Product Id Field. Delete the Product ID value (6001) and leave the Product ID field blank.

Click the Add button. VID_0403 PID_ is now displayed in the text box.

Now click Remove Devices button

Remove Successful popup window is now displayed indicating ‘ Device removed from system’.
Click OK. Close the CDM Uninstaller window (click Red X).

Reboot the PC, and allow the PIIC iX application to start.

Install First Recorder Driver

At Surveillance/OverView desktop, use Alt-F4 to stop PIIC iX application and then login as
PhilipsFieldEngr with the appropriate User Password. Once complete, you will be at the OS desktop.

Go to Control Panel> Device Manager >Other Devices. Right click on XE-50 USB and select Update
Driver Software… In the popup window that follows, select Browse my computer for driver software.
Browse to the USB stick: ex E\FTDI\PhilipsFTDI folder and click Next.

A popup window titled Windows Security will now appear. Click Install this driver software anyway .

In the Update Driver Software –Philips 2 Channel USB Serial Converter, the following message appears:

Windows has finished installing the driver software for this device:
Philips 2 Channel USB Serial Converter

Click Close and confirm that Philips 2 Channel USB Serial Converter has been added to Universal Serial
Bus controllers in Device Manager

Now Reboot the pc and confirm that the iX application re-starts

Install second recorder driver

Once again, at Surveillance/OverView desktop, use Alt-F4 to stop PIIC iX application and then login as
PhilipsFieldEngr with the appropriate user password. Once complete, you will be at the OS desktop.

Go to Control Panel >Device Manager>Other devices and right click USB Serial Port and select Update
Driver Software…

In the popup window that follows, select Browse my computer for driver software. Browse to the USB
stick: ex E\FTDI\PhilipsFTDI folder and click Next.

A popup window titled Windows Security will now appear. Click Install this driver software anyway .

In the Update Driver Software –Philips 2 Channel USB Serial Port (COM10), the following message
appears:

Windows has finished installing the driver software for this device:
Philips 2 Channel USB Serial Port

Click Close and confirm that Philips 2 Channel USB Serial Port (COM10) has been added to Ports (COM
& LPT) in Device Manager

Now Reboot the pc and confirm that the iX application re-starts

Verification

Print a 2 channel strip, verifying that the USB recorder is functioning normally.
