MODERN PHYSICS

TIMELINE
Modern physics is presenting the foundations and frontiers of
today’s physics. The aim of modern physics is to cover these
topics in sufficient depth.

1925
WOLFGANG PAULI

He theorized on electron spin

that has become known as the
Pauli exclusion principle. The
Pauli exclusion principle stated 1925
that no two electrons could be WERNER
in the same quantum state or HEISENBERG
configuration simultaneously.
He contributed to atomic theory
through formulating quantum
mechanics in terms of matrices
and in discovering the uncertainty
principle, which states that a
particle's position and momentum
1925 cannot both be known exactly.

MAX BORN
He is German physicist who
played a vital role in the
evolution of quantum
mechanics. His theoretical work
in solid-state physics and
optics is also considered very
1926
influential. ERWIN
SCHROEDINGER

He was a noted theoretical

physicist and scholar who came
1928 up with a groundbreaking wave
equation for electron movements.
PAUL A.M. DIRAC
Dirac made fundamental contributions
to the early development of both
quantum mechanics and quantum
electrodynamics. Among other
discoveries, he formulated the Dirac
equation which describes the
behaviour of fermions and predicted
the existence of antimatter.
