YOU MUST FOLLOW APPROVED SAFETY PROCEDURES. Performing the following procedures
may expose you to hazards. These procedures should be performed by qualified technicians
familiar with the hazards associated with this type of equipment. These hazards may include
shock, energy, and/or burns. To avoid these hazards:
a) The tasks should be performed in the order indicated.
b) Remove watches, rings, and other metal objects.
c) Prior to contacting any uninsulated surface or termination, use a voltmeter to verify that
no voltage or the expected voltage is present. Check for voltage with both AC and DC
voltmeters prior to making contact.
d) Wear eye protection.
e) Use double insulated tools appropriately rated for the work to be performed.

Static
This equipment contains static sensitive components.Before touching any equipment containing
static sensitive components, discharge all static electricity from yourself by wearing a wrist strap
grounded through a one megohm resistor. Some wrist straps have a built-in one megohm resistor;
therefore no external resistor is necessary. Read and follow wrist strap manufacturer’s instructions
outlining use of a specific wrist strap.

Handling & Securing Procedures
This section lists the cabinet handling and securing procedures for the enclosure.
Enclosure Unloading
This section provides the procedure for unloading the enclosure when it is delivered to a site
for installation.
Unloading must be done using either a fork lift or truck with an attached hydraulic lift.
Manual handling of the enclosure may be necessary if hoisting equipment cannot be used. Manual
handling is only permissible with an empty cabinet (No batteries or any other components installed).
WARNING !
Manual handling can present serious risk for injury if safety precautions are not taken. A 22 mm
nylon rope safety line or equivalent is required to secure the top heavy cabinet for protection against
cabinet tip over.

Safety shoes, gloves, and hard hats are mandatory.
The following steps detail how to unload the enclosure once it is delivered to a site for
installation:

Step
Task/Observation
Once the shipper's truck arrives on site with the crate containing the cabinet, you will
need to verify that the cabinet is packed in its initial crate.

Hard hats, safety shoes, and gloves are required for manual unloading.

All steps must be performed at the enclosure installation site.
Exception: A technician may remove the plastic cover to perform visual inspections/testing as long
as the cover is retained and re-installed after inspections are complete.
Note 1: The Enclosure must not be left in an outdoor environment more than one week prior to
taking it into service. In cases where high humidity or cold temperatures applies, the Enclosure must
be taken into service within 48 hours.
Note 2: The pictures in this section show the smaller enclosure 6130, but this step applies to any
enclosure type/size.

To unpack and check the materials:
Step
Task/Observation
Before unpacking the enclosure packaging, carefully inspect it for damage now
that it has been unloaded and on the ground.
If the enclosure packaging is not damaged, continue to open it up as detailed in
1 the next step.
If you happen to see any damage on the packaging, take photos of the damages
and quickly register a complaint with the transport company, and inform the
Ericsson Project Manager (PM).
After completing the inspection process highlighted in the previous step, carefully
cut the plastic strapping securing the cabinet to the pallet using a scissor or any
2 sharp object.
DO NOT remove pallet straps until at the installation site.

The cardboard cover is stapled to the wooden pallet and is easily detached by
pulling. To prevent damage to the enclosure, make sure the covers remain on all
connections until the enclosure has been secured and cabled.
Prerequisites
The figure below shows the minimum distances recommended to provide adequate working
space.
Note: Isolation pads may or may not be provided. Refer to the Site Installation Document (SID)
drawings, specs and requirements. Plated washers are provided for isolation on concrete
surfaces.
Clearances listed in the image below apply if there is no cable entry. Always add additional
required clearance for external cable entry when required. Allow extra space for the Antenna
jumpers, cabling, cabinet ground, and future equipment, Also ensure that the installation allows
for personnel access to cables and open doors on the enclosure and other adjacent equipment.

The type of anchor used is determined by the type of installation. For installations on concrete pads
or floors, use the Seismic (earthquake with M12 anchors) or Non-seismic (non-earthquake with M10
anchors) Mounting Kit.
Consult the site engineer to determine the mounting kit required for your particular site. All
enclosures must be secured to the platform type provided.
Below are the steps needed to be followed to prepare ground attachments:

Review the Customer Site Documentation and determine into what material the
base will be fastened. The fasteners (either locally sourced, or included in the
ground base frame or inside the cabinet) should be appropriate for what material

on which the enclosure will be installed.
Use an industrial vacuum cleaner to remove the dust and debris produced during
drilling.
Note: The anchor bolts will need to be lubricated prior to insertion into the
ground anchors. Avoid using graphite based lubricants due to them causing
4 corrosion.
Insert the anchors into each hole making sure they are level with the foundation
when fully inserted in the drilled hole. Follow the recommendations of the bolt
supplier regarding the depth of the holes.

6 Follow the instructions in the next section to move the enclosure into position.
CAUTION !
The enclosure is heavy. Lifting the enclosure without the aid of a lifting device can cause injury.
Tip risk. Unsecured enclosure can tip over if not secured properly, which can cause serious injury.
Secure products with a high center of gravity as soon as possible to avoid accidents.
The following methods are recommended depending on equipment availability and the distance to
the installation location:
Use a pallet truck to move the enclosure on its pallet
Use a hand truck to remove the enclosure from its pallet
Use a lifting device to move the enclosure

Lift the enclosure by hand
Note: All these alternatives require at least two people to move the Enclosure and to install it on the
ground.

Using a pallet truck, carefully move the wooden pallet containing the enclosure
1 close to the installation location.

The following steps detail how to move the enclosure using a hand truck:

Two individuals are required to gently remove the enclosure from the pallet.

Carefully remove the existing mounting screws that are installed on the sides of the

enclosure using a Philips PH2 screw driver.
Locate the four mounting brackets that are shipped with the enclosure and install them using
a Philips PH2 screw driver on the side of the enclosure using the screws you previously
removed. Tighten all the screws until snug.

Attach the lifting straps, part MPL 111 27/1, that are shipped with the enclosure to

the mounting bracket on the side of the enclosure.
Lift the enclosure close to the installation location. Ensure that the lifting straps are at a
minimum of 60 degrees angle from the top plane of the enclosure when being lifted.

Manual handling can present serious risk for injury if safety precautions are not taken. A 22mm
nylon safety strap or equivalent is required to secure the top heavy cabinet for protection against
cabinet tip over.
Any loose or dislodged material presents a hazard. Allow 50 to 75lb (23 to 34kg) maximum per
person when manually lifting. Ramps and dollys must be rated for 500kg..
Safety shoes and hard hats are mandatory.

Carrying the enclosure by hand
Step

If no lifting device is available, lift the enclosure by hand, at the bottom of the
enclosure.
Note: Lifting the enclosure by hand will require more than two individuals.

Carefully move the enclosure into position where it is to be permanently installed and
check clearances.
Note: Allow clearance for cable entry and location of the battery / Power cabinet (if
applicable), the feeder lines, cabinet ground, and future equipment, or other cabinet
clearance. Also ensure that the installation allows for adequate air flow and technician
access.
Refer to the CPI figure below for minimum clearances.
2 Remove the front and back ground base frame covers using a Phillips PH2 screwdriver

To initially secure and align the enclosure with the anchors sitting in the drilled holes,
screw two anchor bolts into the anchors at the back of the enclosure with at least 10 mm
of the bolts exposed above the anchors.

Once the back anchor bolts are aligned with the base frame mounting slots, move to the
5 front of the enclosure and align the front mounting slots to the anchors on the drilled
holes. Two people may be required to move the front of the enclosure to ensure
alignment with the front anchors.
Insert the remaining two anchor bolts into the anchors at the front of the enclosure and
6 torque each anchor bolt to 80 Nm or until snug.
Tighten the anchor bolts on all four corners until snug making sure the enclosure is level
with a spirit level.

Connecting AC power cable to the AC power distribution unit - (AC Powered System
Only)

The enclosure is equipped with a Main Earthing Terminal (MET) on the right hand side in front of the
19-inch configurable user space. The enclosure ground cable must be a 35 mm2 green/yellow
cable.
Follow the steps below to ground the enclosure.

Open the cabinet door and locate the grounding cable inlet in the enclosure, indicated by F as
shown below.

After bringing in the ground cable into the cabinet through cable inlet position, pull the cable
enough to have a little slack to enable it to be secured to the cabinet using cable ties later on
and connect it to the cable lug on the grounding point.
The grounding point for the cable lug will be the lower M8 stud on the MET. You will need to
use a 13mm socket and a wrench to remove the M8 stud, secure the cable lug, and tighten

If you don't have a cable lug, you will need to strip strip about 20mm of the ground cable
jackets, using a wire stripper, and connect the cable directly on the grounding point, the M6
stud on the right hand side of the MET.

Note 2: Route the un-stripped ground cable first through the cable inlet position and then strip
it when it is inside the cabinet.
3 Connect the other end of the ground cable to site grounding terminal.

This section lists the necessary steps needed install circuit breakers to the DC panel.

If not already done, remove the cover plates above and on the multi-function
unit.
Note: The four screws on the multi-function unit do not require a tool and can be
removed using your fingers.

screwdriver for removal.
Note: The picture below shows the 6130/6140 AC enclosure but procedure is
similar for other large HGM enclosures.

remove the insulation cover protecting the circuit breaker fingers as shown
below.
Locate the circuit breaker that needs to be installed from the circuit breaker
3 package that came with the enclosure.
Note 1: The alarm wires are numbered to match the circuit breaker positions.

Install them into the circuit breaker matching the numbered slot.

Note 2: These alarm wires are white in the AC unit and black in the DC unit.
Install the circuit breaker to the DIN rail, making sure the contact bar finger
enters the circuit breaker terminal cavity and the circuit breaker locks on the DIN
rail. Tighten the bottom screw using a PH2 screw driver to secure it on the DIN
rail.

Install the remaining circuit breakers that correspond to the amperage (A) of the
6 equipment being connected to the enclosure. Refer to the equipment manual for
the correct circuit breaker. Once the circuit breaker installation is complete, close
the multi function cover panel.

The enclosure's ground must be connected to the site main earth terminal (MET)
before connecting AC to avoid injury from hazardous voltages.
Follow the steps below to connect incoming AC Power cable to the enclosure.

step:
If not already completed, connect the frame safety ground to the enclosure ground

Ensure that the AC power is switched off at the source.
Open the cabinet door and ensure all circuit breakers are in the "Off" positions.
Locate the AC cable inlets in the enclosure. These are located on the lower right corner
(when facing the cabinet) as shown below.

The picture below shows an overview of how the AC cables will be routed to the AC
power distribution unit in the enclosure.

Note: Provide working length to the front of the cabinet when pulling the cables and
stripping them.
Remove the cover plate on the AC main power distribution unit by unscrewing the tool-
less screw by hand. The AC main power terminal is located beneath the plate.

6 Strip the cable sheath of the power cable to an appropriate length, using cable shield

If using a heavy gauge shielded AC power cable, you will need to strip off about 10
inches/ 250mm of the outer jacket of the power cable as shown on the picture below.

After removing the outer jacket and exposing the shielded copper wire strands, you will
need to braid them in preparation for taping and connecting them to the ground
connection.

For smaller gauge AC power cables, use a wire stripper to strip about 10 mm of the power
cable conductors as shown below. Ensure the ground cable is longer than the other
cable to ensure it can reach the Main Earth Terminal (MET) when the other power cables
are connected.

For large gauge AC power cables, you will need to use a cable stripper to strip about
10mm of the power cable conductors as shown below.

Put the cover plate back into place, and tighten the two screws highlighted below in red by

Ensure the DC power is disconnected or switched off in the external power
equipment before making DC connections in the enclosure.

CAUTION!
Color conventions require battery polarity be marked with red positive (+) and blue
negative (-). Cables may be colored black or grey and may not be marked.
Use a voltmeter when verifying polarity.
Follow the steps below to connect incoming DC power cables to the enclosure.

within the enclosure are in the OFF (down) positions.
Open the cabinet door and locate the DC cable inlets in the enclosure. These
are located on the lower left corner (when facing the cabinet) as shown below.

The picture below shows an overview of how the DC power cables will be routed
to the DC power distribution unit in the enclosure.
If you have similar colored cables, you should mark both ends of the DC cables
with colored tape.
Note: Other colors may be used. Check the cables are marked correctly using
an ohm meter.
5 Remove the two screws on the cover plate above the DC power distribution unit
using a PH2 screwdriver
Note: The four screws on the DC power distribution unit do not require a tool
and can be removed using your fingers. The two screws holding the cover plate

Push the DC cables through the punctured cable entry grommets on the left side
of the cabinet (when facing the cabinet) feeding these cables upwards towards

the DC power distribution unit to get an approximate length of how much cable
is needed before proceeding to the next step.
Pull the cables out to the front of the cabinet and cut the cables to the
appropriate length using a cable cutter, giving the cable some slack to bend
them for connection to the -48 V and 0 V bar connections on the DC power

distribution unit.
Use a cable stripper, and strip off 20 mm of conductor insulation.
Note: Provide working length to the front of the cabinet when pulling the cables

Using a PH2 screwdriver, loosen the retaining screws on the DC power
distribution input terminal corresponding to the voltage and insert the cables
corresponding to the connection points.
After screwing these connections in their respective terminals, gently tug on the
cables to make sure they are securely fastened before proceeding to the next
step.

This section describes how external digital alarm signals are connected.
Please refer to the local Site Installation Document (SID) when making external alarm
connections in order to make the proper connections.
To connect the external alarm cable to the enclosure, follow the steps below.

Locate the signal cable inlets in the enclosure, indicated by D in the figure below.
2 Pass at least 900 mm of the cable through one of the cable inlets.
Remove the alarm connector on the right hand side using a flat head screw and pull the

All alarms that are processed by the enclosure's local controller can be generated to an
external management entity.
The following steps show you how to connect the local area network interface connector to the ESC.

Locate the RJ45 connector with Ericsson's product number 777 01/00300 R2A.
1 The RJ45 connector is normally shipped with the cabinet in the accessories box.
Locate the Power Controller Unit on the right hand side of the enclosure and the
2 RS485 interface port on it that is labeled "RS485."
Plug in the RJ45 connector into the RS 485 socket, making sure it is snug and does
not pull out when tugged.

The RJ45 connector for Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity generates digital
output signals to the ESC.
5 Use a plastic cable tie and secure the RJ45 cable to the enclosure frame and use a
flush cutter to cut the plastic cable tie flush.

Insert the DC power cable from below through the correct inlet. For an
unshielded
1 cable, the correct inlet is B1 in the figure, and shielded cable, B2. If the cable is
shielded, perform the following step 2 to 4. If the cable is unshielded, go to step
5 directly.
Remove the six screws holding the cover plates above and on the Multifunction
Unit. The four screws on the Multifunction unit do not require a tool and can be

removed using your fingers. The screws holding the cover plate above the
multifunction unit will need a PH2 screwdriver for removal.

Route the cable to the side of the enclosure. Route the cable to the top of the
enclosure by feeding it upwards between the enclosure and the rack frame.

Connect the plus (+) cable to the ground connector block at the back from
8 above. Tighten the screw using a PH2 screwdriver to 11.7 Nm. Pull on the cable
to make sure it is secured tightly by the screw.

the -48 V cable and the alarm cable to make sure they are secured tightly by the
screw. In the picture below, the alarm cables have the red plastic shrink wrap.
Note: The four screws on the Multifunction unit do not require a tool and can be
re-installed using your fingers until they are tight. The screws holding the cover
plate above the multifunction unit will need a PH2 screwdriver for re-installation.
Tighten them to 1.96 N.m as shown below.

For each installed external battery cabinet, a separate circuit breaker and alarm cable must be
installed in the multi-function unit. This alarm is triggered when the circuit breaker triggers and
disconnects power to the external battery cabinet.

This section describes how to connect external batteries to the enclosure.
NOTE: All Battery Backup Systems come with the -48 V DC cable and the 0 V cable.
Step

1 Insert the battery cable from below through position B1 in the figure.

Route the battery cable to the side of the enclosure and continue routing the cable to the
top of the enclosure by feeding it upwards between the enclosure and the rack frame.
Note: The battery cables will need larger bend radius to successfully insert them into the

0 V bar and the battery circuit breakers. You will need to feed these cables upwards
more past the rack frame to get more slack so that you can bend them down towards the
connection points on the 0 V bar and the batter circuit breakers.
Insert the 20 mm stripped minus (-) battery cable to the circuit breakers cable connector
that is provided in the accessory box. Hand tighten the screw and then use a PH2 screw

driver to make sure the minus battery cable is secured tightly. Try to pull it out to confirm
that it is securely fastened to the circuit breaker cable connector.

The screws holding the cover plate above the multi-function unit will need a PH2
screwdriver for re-installation. Tighten until snug.

This section will provide guidelines for powering up the enclosure.
The Enclosure must be powered up 8 hours after installation even if the enclosure is not taken
into service. The reason is to start the basic climate function to ensure the protection of the internal
units from local climate conditions.

Switch on the circuit breakers for the rectifiers. Refer to the labels on the circuit
breakers for identification of the rectifiers being powered on. After switching on
the rectifiers, you should see the green LEDs on the rectifiers and the controller
light up.

Check all the optical LED indicators in the enclosure and note their color.
A “green” LED indicates OK. The “red” (AL) LED indicates fault.

Only the green optical indicators should emit light. No optical indicators must
flash. If there is a "red" or "yellow" light on the optical indicator, you will need
look at the Power Controller to determine the alarm and clear it.
CAUTION
Tests may be undertaken only by adequately trained personnel with satisfactory knowledge about
the power supply system and ESC.
Follow the methods below to bring the Ericsson Site Controller (ESC) into full maintenance mode.

Using a paperclip or a small object, press the small maintenance button on the
ESC for 4 seconds. This button is right next to the small spanner icon on the left
side of the ESC (when facing the ESC) above the -48V connection.
Do not press the button more more than 4 seconds. If you press the button more
than 4 seconds, the factory reset function will be activated.
Once in the maintenance menu, you will see the light next to the spanner icon
1 light up in blue, indicating you are in the maintenance configuration on the ESC.

This indicator will light up with a steady blue light.
Connect an ethernet cable from the laptop to the port 2 on the ESC.
Note: You will require a username and password to log into the ESC 0301. The
default username is oss, the default password is default. All these are in the
lower case.

Once successfully logged on to the ESC, you will see the following menu.
Note: Configuring IP settings will allow the ESC to be connected through IP and
enable the license file to be installed remotely.
In the Basic Configuration, you will be able to view and if necessary, update the
IP settings of the ESC. If DHCP is used, the IPV4 Address, IPV4 Netmask, and
IPV4 gateway should be left blank. Below is a picture of the IP settings of the
ESC.

If required, the password can be changed in the ESC's Basic Configuration
menu, but you will also need to ensure that it is also changed in the OSS to
complete the connectivity between the OSS and the ESC.
When completed with the basic configuration, you will need to select "Commit". It
is not necessary to reboot the ESC.
The ESC will need to send alarm details to the OSS or ESCM and you will need
6 to set up alarm subscriptions to these connections.
On the ESC, select Advanced Configuration
Note: You can add several alarm subscriptions using the steps above to other
equipment that will need to be notified of any alarms captured by the ESC.
These equipment (OSS/ESCM) can receive the alarms that they are subscribed
to on the ESC. You can also unsubscribe these alarms.

The Power System Configuration and Values will be listed on the ESC as shown
below. The settings shown in the image below are the factory default.
8 If you change any of the values on this page and click the corresponding 'Set'
button, the new values will be downloaded to the power system controller
automatically.
You will need to check connectivity to the OSS from the ESC and vice versa
after configuring the ESC.
To verify connection to the OSS while connected to the ESC, you will

need to ping the ESCM or the IP address assigned to the OSS-RC.
In the Network Operations Center (NOC), you will need to connect to the
o Double check the ESC name matches the site that the
connectivity is being tested.

The enclosure comes with the power system controller chart that shows all the menu options, refer
to this chart when checking the PSC.

Follow the methods below to check the Power System Controller (PSC) after power up.

Check the LED indicators on the power system controller on the right hand side of the

enclosure for any fault state indicators.

To check the alarm status, press the 'ESC' key to go to the upper level main menu, then press
'ENT.' to go to the next menu. Use the 'UP', 'DN' key to go to the 'Sys.Status Menu', Select
the 'Active.Alarm' menu and use the 'UP, 'DN' key to see all the active alarms. Press the
'ENT.' to view the alarm details. Press the 'ESC' button to exit.
Clear all the Major Alarms before proceeding to the next step. You should only have the
door alarm indicator, which is an observation alarm.
If you are not already on the main screen, press the 'ESC' button to exit to the main screen.
Set the time by pressing "ENT." three times to get to the System Time Setting Mode

enclosure and any equipment installed within it and notify them that you are departing the site.
[ ] Inventory and account for all tools and test equipment.
