La Liga

July 1892 - Rizal organized the La Liga Filipina, a reform movement.

Andres Bonifacio - who became one of the founders of the organization.

July 6, 1892, merely four days after the Liga was organized for allegedly found in his baggage bundles of
leaflets entitled “Poor Friars” which were against the Dominicans who acquired riches contrary to their
vow of poverty.

Rizal was held in Fort Santiago for about a week and then was deported to Dapitan

The Liga became inactive until through the effort of Domingo Franco and Andres Bonifacio,

Apolinario became the secretary of the Supreme Council

Rizal Meaningful Life in Dapitan

JOSE RIZAL AND JOSEPHINE BRACKEN

While in Dapitan, He missed his family and the death of Leonora Rivera

Mr. Taufer adopted daughter Josephine to seek the services of the opthalmic surgeon.

 Rizal and Josephine fell in love with each other at first sight.

 Father Obach, the priest of Dapitan, refused to marry them

Rizal and Josephine held hands together and married themselves in the eyes of God and lived as
husband and wife. was blessed with a son who survived only for three hours after birth

The boy was named Francisco

Josephine - Irish girl of sweet eighteen, slender, blue eyed, hair chestnut blond

was born in HK on October 3, 1876

mother was Elizabeth Jane MacBride who died in childbirth and her father James Bracken, a
corporal in the British garrison.

RIZAL AND KATIPUNAN

 Katipunero led by Andres Bonifacio.

Dr. Pio Valenzuela was named emissary to Dapitan in order to inform Dr. Jose Rizal

 Dr. Pio Valenzuela brought with him a blind man by the name of Raymundo Mata.

 Venus and arrived in Dapitan in the evening of July 21, 1896.

 Rizal's 4-years of exile in Dapitan ended in July 31, 1896

He was kept as “guest” on board the Spanish cruiser “Castilla” and held “incommunicado month from
August 6 to September 2, 1896.

August 26, 1896, the “Cry of Balintawak” was raised by Bonifacio and Jacinto

Rizal cieved two letters from Gov. Gen. Blanco. Minister of War General Marcelo de Ascaraga and
Minister of Colonies with covering letter absolved Rizal from all blame.

On September 7, 1896, the steamer Isla de Panay arrived at Singapore.

In Singapore, he was advised by Don Pedro and other Filipino residents to stay and never go to
Barcelona

immediately wrote a letter to his best friend Blumentritt

In September 30 at 4:00 pm he was officially notified by Captain Aleman, kept heavily guarded for 3
days.
