BUNAKEN Simulation Exercise Confidential Information of Representative of WALHI WALHI WALHI is a non-government organization that advocates environmental issues, including conservation of nature. It has links with like-minded non-government organizations both locally and internationally. While WALHI is in favor of a more intensive effort to conserve the Bunaken Park, they are skeptical of both the intention and capacity of the Ministry of Forestry to implement their conservation proposal. Their goal, consistent with their advocacy, is for the serious and effective preservation of the park, especially from both business exploitation and the irresponsible behavior of fisherfolks. WALHI is ready to tap both its local and international networks in order to put a spotlight on the environmental degradation of the Bunaken Park, if it does not see real conservation efforts. What it can also do is organize and lead mass mobilizations in order to physically secure the area, as they had done before in many other places, with or without the support of their global partners
