1. INTENDED USE

The angle indicator makes it faster and easier to direct holes to desired angle and to drill
them to the desired depth/level.

The angle indicator comprises sensors on the feed and the carrier, as well as a display
unit and a sight in the cabin. The display unit shows the directional and depth readings
calculated on the basis of the information from the sight and the sensors.

FEED TILT

The aligning indicators show the direction in which feed is inclined in relation to the set tilt
and swing angles. The illustration shows the angle differences indicated by the lights.
In vertical drilling mode, the centremost lights switch off and the green light turns on when
the angle difference is less than the set value in SA3. The value in SA3 is common to both
tilt and swing readings.
In aligning mode, the lights indicate the tilt and swing angles of the feed in the same way
as in vertical drilling mode. The green light for blasting direction turns on when the angle
difference is less than the SA1 setting, and the green light for blasting angle turns on when
the angle difference is less than the SA2 setting. When both blasting direction and blasting
angle (bench inclination) are correct and the green indicator lights are illuminated, the
lights of both indicator blocks are switched off even if the tilt and swing values were above
the SA3 setting.
When turning the feed to the correct position with the aid of the aligning indicators, always
first turn the feed to the correct tilt angle and then to the correct swing angle. This is
necessary because changing the swing angle does not affect tilt, whereas changing the
tilt does also change swing angle.

5. MEASURING OF DRILLING DEPTH (OPTIONAL EXTRA)

5.1. Measuring drilling depth – general

P 25
When the feed is at the desired angle and
10 drilling is started, press the drilling mode

key to enter drilling mode.

P 75
In drilling mode, display A at first shows the
30 penetration rate (cm/min) and display B
shows drilling depth in centimetres.
Even in drilling mode, the aligning
indicators are showing the position of the
feed.

The unit used in drilling depth measurement (centimetres/inches) is determined by the

SCPL parameter set during calibration. When inches are used, the CORF parameter can
also be set such that the length is shown in feet and inches or just inches.
The user can even, while in drilling mode, select vertical drilling angles or directional

angles to be displayed by pressing the display mode keys . Depth measuring

still works normally in these display modes.

In HdEP mode, the depth value is set in the hole direction (hole length). In FIEL mode, the
depth value is set in terms of the bench height. The conversion between the bench height
and hole length is calculated according to the position of the feed when the bench height
was entered. This is why the feed must be aligned before entry of the bench height.

HdEP

FIEL
800

Select HdEP or FIEL by pressing

Use the number keys to enter the desired hole depth in centimetres, and accept the setting
by pressing whereby the display returns to depth measuring mode. By pressing

you can check the set hole depth in the hole direction (HdEP).

TIM 2300

Note! always shows hole depth in the hole direction, even if the setting was given
as bench height (FIEL). With inclined holes, HdEP is greater than the set FIEL value.

Once the desired hole depth is reached, the LEVEL indicator light and display B start
flashing. At the same time, the ‘stop drilling’ output becomes activated.

TIM 2300

5.3. Drilling depth measurement methods

The drilling depth measurement method depends on the RODC parameter set when in
calibrating mode.
5.3.1. Drilling depth measuring when RODC = 0
When the RODC parameter is set to 0, the drilling depth is measured while percussion
is on. If percussion is off, the reading of the drilling depth counter does not change
although the rock drill was run in the feed (automatic depth measuring prevention). When
percussion is off, the indicator light for automatic depth measuring (H6) prevention
illuminates and display A reads ‘HOLE’. Display B shows the drilled distance.

HOLE
360

Rod replacement does not require the user to perform additional procedures. However,
if an existing hole is reamed with percussion, the bit must first be run to the bottom of the

hole, with the depth measuring prevented manually by pressing

The button’s indicator light turns on and display A shows ‘HOLE’.

HOLE
360

The hole can now be reamed with percussion without changes in the depth counter
reading. After cleaning of the hole, the bit must be run to the bottom of the hole, after which

the manual depth measuring prevention can be turned off by pressing

B 84015--3 en 0507/LH 31 (42)

TIM 2300

0.0
When the hole is completed, press the
14.0
drilling mode key , and the display
will return to the angle display mode. At the
same time, the depth of the drilled hole is
stored in the memory and depth measuring
is reset to zero.

5.3.2. Drilling depth measuring when RODC = 4

When the RODC parameter is set to 4, the use of percussion does not affect drilling depth
measurement. Rod replacement or reaming of a drilled hole does not normally require
additional procedures on the part of the user. However, in order to make the drilling depth
measurement function properly, all rods except for the first rod must be of equal length.
In addition, the RODL parameter determining the rod length must be correctly set in the
calibration mode.
Since in this mode the drilling depth measurement starts immediately upon switching over
to drilling mode, the counter should be reset at the desired point, for example, when the

drill bit meets the rock with the first rod. This is done by pressing

TIM 2300

In the figure, the ‘1’ indicates the location of the rock drill when drilling is started. The ‘2’
indicates the level at which the rock drill is in its lowest position and rod replacement starts.
At point 3, the rock drill has been lifted from level 2 at least 20 centimetres beyond the rod
length. Display A shows ROD CH, and indicator light H6 starts flashing. Also the indicator
light for button C2 turns on.

ROD CH
283

However, if a rod is not added, this must be indicated to the TIM 2300 by pressing
At point 4, when the rock drill is lowered to a level which is one rod length higher than at
point 2, the depth counter assumes that a rod replacement took place and starts to
increase the drilling depth reading.
If the rock drill was not lifted enough at point 3, or if the rod replacement was cancelled

by pressing , drilling depth measurement continues only after the rock drill passes
the level reached at point 2.

After the hole is drilled to its final depth, return to angle display mode by pressing

At the same time, the data on drilled holes are stored in the drilling memory and the depth
counter is reset.
