5000 per day with standard deviation of 75 copies. To make sure that he has enough
supplies and avoid understocking, he monitored the number of copies he produced for 30
days which was noted at an average of 5105. At a .05 level of significance, is the average

2.) A Social Media Agency reported that college students spent an average of 30 hours per
week on Facebook with standard deviation of 2.5 hours. To find out if this still true, a
new survey was conducted among 50 students and reported an average of 28 hours spent
on Facebook. At a .01 level of significance, is there average number of hours which
college students spent on Facebook different from 30 hours?

µ = 30 σ = 2.5 x̄ = 28 n = 50

Null hypothesis: The average number of hours which college students spent on Facebook is 30
hours.
Alternative hypothesis: The average number of hours which college students spent on Facebook
is different from 30 hours.

Level of significance: 0.01/2 = 0.005

Critical z-value: + 2.575 Normal Curve

Decision rule: Reject null hypothesis if Z < -2.575 or Z > 2.575, otherwise do not reject the null
hypothesis

Conclusion: Reject the null hypothesis, -5.66 < -2.575, which indicates that enough evidence is
present in supporting the average number of hours which college students spent on Facebook is
different from 30 hours.

Recommendations: The aforementioned results indicate the need for the Social Media Firm to
update its record since what they had reported has been proven false and inaccurate.
