III. Problem/Scenario

As experts in physics, you have been recruited by the homicide division of the
local Police Department.
It is 4:40 a.m. You wake up to the sound of your cell phone vibrating on your
night stand. Groggy, you clumsily answer the phone to find out that a crew is awaiting
your arrival at the crime scene. As this is your first official duty call, you run to your and
drive to the scene of the crime.
On-site, you navigate through the media frenzy only to be greeted by the
disheartening calmness of the homicide crew carrying about their work. The body lies
lifeless on the floor of the apartment and the smell of gun smoke is clearly present in the
room.
Police officer: Hello, Inspector.
You: Hello, Officer.
Police officer: The 911 dispatcher was called at 3:18 a.m. by a neighbor who heard
gunshots coming from this apartment. So far, all we know is that between 2:30 a.m. and
3:20 a.m., there was a heated argument between two men, which ended with three
gunshots.
You: Did you search the premises for indication of breaking and entering, gun slugs or
any other clues?
Police officer: We have started to. As for slugs, the victim has two wounds, including
one fatal wound in the cardiac region. We know that the gun was fired straight
horizontally because of the positions of these gunshot wounds.
You: Are there any other wounds on the victim?
Police officer: None visible, Inspector.

You and your group decide to divide and conquer so that you can collect more evidence
quickly and efficiently. You agree to come back in 10 minutes to report back what you
have found out.
IV. Clues or Evidences
IV. Data and Result
Conclusion:
It is our professional opinion that the police should arrest Suspect #_1_ because
……….
Based on the clues that we have gathered, we can say with confidence that the
suspect of the homicide was suspect #1 Since the final height for the vertical axis
was subtracted from a height of 1.5 meters and it showed that it is equal to the
height of the hand position of the suspect when it missed and when it hit the heart
of the victim. The evidence that we gathered on the crime scene was the gun the
suspect used in the crime. It was a 45 colt that had a muzzle speed of 106 m/s.
With the evidence being placed, the gun of the suspect (which the gun was placed
either on the right or left hand of the suspect) was thoroughly examined and
through speed of 106 m/s the bullet travelled at 22 m where it hit the opposite
building wall across the victim’s apartment at a height of 5.1 m. The bullet was
found 5.1 m from the building 22 meters across from the victim’s apartment and
the victim was found at Apartment 231. Therefore, in order to confirm the case,
walking up to the second floor is necessary to confirm different walkout levels.
Upon arriving the at the second floor of the apartment, there laid was the body of
the victim with 2 gunshot wounds to the chest and across the other side of the room
was a screen door that had a bullet hole 1.2 meters above the ground. This lead to a
conclusion that the bullet was horizontally travelling all the way to the other side
of the building where the bullet that missed landed on. The height from the ground
level to the apartment of the victim was 4.0 m and adding the bullet hole that was
1.2 m above the ground of the screen door and was added to a total of 5.2 meters.
Going back to the bullet hole across the street, the bullet hole was 5.1 m above the
ground which leads to the conclusion that the bullet was horizontally travelling all
the way across as mentioned in the given crime illustration. All the evidence
presented hereby declares that suspect #1 is guilty without reasonable doubt and
will be presented with a case which files for breaking and entering, homicide
resulting in damage to property and disturbance of the peace (Neighbors alerted).
