Checklist for Tower Crane

1 Tower crane should be physically in good condition, free from defects
2 Foundation should be provided as per design
3 Power cable should be free from damages and connection taken through industrial
plug
4 Lighting arrestor provided and earth value measured and displayed
5 Body earthing provided and earth value measured and displayed
6 Fixed access ladder is provided for access to all serviceable parts of the tower crane
7 All bolts/pins or connecting fasteners used are in accordance to manufactures’ design
and readily identifiable
8 Tower crane boom swinging area is free from obstruction
9 Vertical polyimide rope grab has fixed inside monkey ladder and fall
arrestor/carabiner have available in sufficient number
10 Counter weight should be properly fixed
11 Hydraulic cylinder, hoses should be in good condition and free from leakage
12 All jib sections are free from defects and corrosion that may affects their structural
integrity
13 Limit switches are tested
A Over hoist Limit Switch
B Overload Limit Switches
C Trolley Limit Switch
D Slewing Limit Switch
14 Safe working load should be marked.
15 Safe access and egress are provided to the crane operator
16 Operator have suitable license/experience certificate
17 Operator cabin should be in good condition, equipped with wind glasses and wireless
communlrnllon
18 Emergency stop button, which will terminate the operation of the crane engine, is
installed in the operator cabin and correctly identified
19 Fire extinguisher is fit for use and provided in the operator cabin
20 First Aid kit should be available
21 A load capacity chart is displayed in the operator cabin.
22 Sling should be free from defects
23 All rope attachments condition (dead end with U clamps)
24 Safe load Indicator should be in working condition
25 Trolley rollers, tracks, slewing rings and rollers
26 Tower Crane is provided with markings of the Safe Working Load
27 Operator crane cabin is provided with a locking mechanism so as to prevent
unauthorized entry
28 Boom sections are free of cracks or dents
29 Main and auxiliary wire ropes are well lubricated and that there are no visible defects
such as broken wires, kinks, excess wear, crushing etc.
30 Winches, pulleys and wire ropes are in good working condition
31 Crane hook is provided with a safety latch to prevent displacement of the sling or load
from the hook.
32 Wind anemometer is installed and is in good working condition
33 Adequate aircraft warning lights and/or chequered white and
34 Jib/boom Illumination bulb installed at every 10 mtrs
35 One halogen light bulb has installed below the top of boom (near-by operator cabin)
in down direction
36 Tower crane should be physically good & should have valid TPI

Note: If the observation is “NO” give the reason in remarks option
