A noun is a naming word. It
names a person, place,
animal or thing. Among these
person and animal are living
beings. We know that living
beings can either be male or
female.
Masculine and Feminine
Gender

Look at the following


sentences :-
1. Sanjiv is a boy. He is my
brother.
2. Shivani is a girl. She is my
Boy/Brother
sister.
We know that boy and brother
are the names of males. Girl
and sister are the names of
females. Boy and brother
are of the masculine gender.
Girl and sister are of the
feminine gender.

A noun that denotes a


male is said to be of the
Masculine gender.
Some examples of
Masculine gender :-
Horse, man, policeman,
monk, prince, etc.
Feminine gender
A noun that denotes a
female is said to be of
the Feminine gender.
Some examples of
Feminine gender :-
Princess , nun, peahen,
woman, niece, etc.

The word “teacher” can stand both Common gender.
