Technical specifications Statut Executory

Important Note: This document has been translated from the French. In the event of any dispute, only the French
version is referred to as the reference text and is binding on the parties.

Purpose Define the characteristics concerning the supply and the acceptance of lamellar graphite
cast iron parts:
 FGL 175HB,
 FGL 215HB,
 FGL 240HB,
used for manufacturing plant equipment intended for the Renault Group.
All the characteristics that are not specified in this document must conform to the norms
EN 1559-1 and EN 1559-3.
The client reserves the right to check the requested characteristics on the molded parts
before machining, at the foundry, and under the equipment manufacturer's or the
supplier's responsibility.

Foreword
The norm EN 1561 cannot be taken as reference because:
 of the different hardness and structure characteristics,
 of imposing maximum sulfur, phosphorus, and tin percentages
The designation of grades in the Renault norm is different of the one employed in the European norms,
so as to differentiate between the grades conform to the Renault norm and the grades conform to the
norm 1561.

1 Chemical composition (weight %)

The required properties, especially the fitness for building up by welding, impose the following limits:
Sulfur Phosphorus Tin
FGL 175HB 0,15 max. 0,25 max. 0,10 max.
FGL 215HB 0,12 max. 0,20 max. 0,10 max.
FGL 240HB 0,12 max. 0,15 max. 0,10 max.

FGL 175HB cast iron: The iron casting and its composition are left to the foundryman's initiative; this
must guarantee the conformity of the material's characteristics with the defined requirements.
FGL 215HB cast iron: The iron casting and its composition are left to the foundryman's initiative; this
adjusts especially the content of alloy elements such as Cr, Cu, Mo, Ni,....
FGL 240HB cast iron: The iron casting and its composition are left to the foundryman's initiative; this
adjusts especially the content of alloy elements such as Cr, Cu, Mo, Ni, V.... The choice of the Cr-Cu, Cr-
Ni or Cr-Mo pair (possibly with V) can be subject of specifications upon request

As a guide, the following basic chemical composition is proposed:

Carbon Silicon Manganese

FGL 175HB 3,20 à 3,60 1,80 à 2,50 0,60 à 1,00
FGL 215HB 2,80 à 3,20 1,00 à 2,00 0,50 à 1,00
FGL 240HB 2,80 à 3,20 1,00 à 2,00 0,50 à 1,00

2 Delivery state

2.1 On designated areas (Zd) of the part

The hardness values measured by the HBS or HBW Brinell method or using a portable hardness
meter are the following:

Hardness meter
Brinell HBW ERNST Portable electronic harness
(calibrated pin) meter with bounce
FGL 175HB 150 to 200 150 to 200 HBW 410 to 475 LG
FGL 215HB 190 to 240 190 to 240 HBW 460 to 510 LG
FGL 240HB 220 to 260 220 to 260 HBW 495 to 530 LG

2.2 Structure
The structure must compose of:

Graphite
Matrix Ferrite Cementite
(in accordance with ISO
945)
Lamellar graphite I A ≥ 3
FGL 175HB Lamellar pearlite ≤ 20 % ≤5% Small amounts of B, D, and
E types are tolerated
Lamellar graphite I A ≥ 4;
FGL 215HB Lamellar pearlite ≤ 10 % ≤5% small amounts of B
distribution are tolerated
Fine lamellar pearlite, with Lamellar graphite I A ≥ 4
interlamellar spacing ≤ 0.75
µm, which corresponds to a
FGL 240HB ≤5% ≤5%
determined structure at 50% at
most, under a magnification of
200

3 Fitness for hardening of the cast irons FGL 215HB and FGL 240HB
The fitness for surface or local (T7) hardening is guaranteed and must allow, under the treatment
conditions mentioned in the table below, obtaining the indicated surface hardness:

Heating Hardness
Hardening Temperi Type of cast iron
ng HBW LG 1)
LD 2)
Method Temperature 2,5/187,5
Oxyacetylene FGL 215HB cast
≥ 400 ≥ 630 ≥ 650
torch 850 °C ± WATER or WITHO iron
or 25°C AIR BLOW UT FGL 240 HB cast
by induction ≥ 450 ≥ 650 ≥ 690
iron
1) Hardness measured with the G probe of a portable electronic hardness meter with bounce.
2) Hardness measured with the D probe of a portable electronic hardness meter with bounce.
The treated thickness must be larger than or equal to 2 mm
