ABSTRACT

Development of vulcanizing toolbox is made for storing vulcanizing tools, or any light tools like
screw driver and hammer at home, with the bigger size, this vulcanizing toolbox can store more
tools inside it. Even though the size of the vulcanizing toolbox is big, but it is light to take
anywhere, because it is made from shakaplate.
1.0

CHAPTER ONE

1.1 Introduction

Toolbox is very important thing to store a tool in order to make the toolbox, the project will
design and analyze a toolbox model in market that can be use for making a new concept of
toolbox. The toolbox must be easy to carry, anywhere and store more tools. We can find a lot of
toolbox that is available in the workshop or home, but usually this toolbox is constructed for
storing tools and it can be carry to any where if necessary.

1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

Nowadays there are a lot of toolbox designed that is available in the market but most of the
designs can not store more tools. some toolbox that is available may not be that strong to resist
the weight of the tools, when there is more tools in it.

1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

Vulcanizing toolbox is very important because things may look difficult in the absence of the
vulcanizing toolbox if the needier is not having it, it also help to increase the life span of tools
from getting lost or damage.

1.4 AIM AND OBJECTIVES

There are two main objectives to achieve in this research which are:

- To design vulcanizing toolbox that can be taken to anywhere.

- To fabricate the new concept of toolbox.
1.5 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

In other to research the objectives, there is the scope of project which are:
- The limit weight of tools that can be put inside the toolbox is below 11.02 1b [5kg]
- The toolbox is made from metal and it can be rust if the vulcanizing toolbox is kept in a
wet place.

1.6

METHODOLOGY

The methodology of completing this project gives the account of the sequence taken in
producing the project and a better visual impression of the overall dimension and proportion of
the shapes and part in relation to each other. It will also take the amount of the general seals in
relation to human wants e.t.c

1.7 WORKING DRAWING

In the fabrication and welding of any structure of mechanism, several types of drawing are
required, some of these drawing provides specific information and on how the different
component of the product are to be constructed, other help to illustrate how the component part
are been assembled, the various engineering drawing are only referred to as involving or
production drawing. They identify functions and features of a work drawing and their associated
component list are shown below.
2.0 CHAPTER TWO

2.1 LITERATURE REVIEW

The design of vulcanizing toolbox varies from product to product and industry to industry,
before the design of a product can begin, the need for that product must be established, the main
source for design project or development of a new product idea is market demand without
customer for the product, there is no way to recover the cost of design and manufacture.

Thus, the most important part in understanding the design problem lies in assessing the
market which is establishing what customers want in the product. Even though the result are
useless unless they can be matched to a market need or a new market can be developed for them.

Additionally, a design project for a new product or some features of a product can be initiated
by the design to redesign is fostered by market demand for a new model or the desire to include a
new technology in an existing product.

3.1 MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION

MATERIALS

1. Shakaplate
2. 1x1 inch square pipe
3. Inches
4. Electrode
5. Cutting disc
6. Filling disc
7. Hack saw blade
8. Paint [metallic blue]
3.2
CONSTRUCTION

STAGE 1
MARKING OUT

Before any of the materials used can be cut into size, it is necessary to mark out the actual
dimension on the surface of the materials to be used. The tools used for marking out are
as follows:

i. Marking out table surface

plate
ii. Scriber
iii. Steel rule
iv. Centre punch
v. Engineering square
vi. Table rule
vii. Hack saw
The surface plate serve as a base surface for accurate and smoothness for all marking out scriber
was used to subscribe straight lines and curves iron the metal, showing where the cutting plate
will pass through. Steel rule is usually a straight edge strip used as a guide in drawing straight
lines or as measuring steel.

3.3 STAGE 2

Firstly, the shakaplate [flat sheet] where cut and put into shapes. The shakaplate for the
preparation of the bed was cut by 1ft =300x600mm, then after which it was cut into shapes then
the joining of others parts follows, the cover and the inches where attached to it by welding them
together, and I make sure that the length and breath was properly squared before welding it by
the use of electric arc welding. Having satisfactory accomplished the constructional work then I
file those joining points in order to have a smooth surface.

3.4 - SURFACE PREPARATION

The surface of the vulcanizing toolbox part which were being weld were properly cleaned
with wire brush and coarse emirate cloth in order to remove rust or corrosive particles
from the surface to aid properly adhesion of the first coating of the metallic blue paint.
The first coat of paint was applied and allowed to dry for at least two hours then smooth
abrasive paper was used again to rub off the particles of the first lightly. The second coat
was applied with paint compressing machine and allowed to dry for about an hour, then
the final finishing coat was applied with author metallic blue paint, which produced the
beautiful and lasting finish of the work.

CHAPTER FOUR

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

The maintenance of tools can be done by keeping them into the vulcanizing toolbox in
order to expand the life span of the tools. The design and construction of this vulcanizing
toolbox was done with reliable and high quality materials, the construction employed
suitable type of adjustment, mechanism, joint and point to improve the esthetic view the
documentation is equally sectioned into simple units to allow for easy understanding of
the principle governing the design and construction of this project.

Summary of principle finding

I was able to find out in the existing type of vulcanizing toolbox that if mostly made it
cost iron and due to its lower resistance to fire, it will be out if it is use under period of
time.

CHAPTER FIVE
CONCLUSION
It is hoped that this model will serve as a guide to other researchers as well as
instructional materials to students of Mechanical Engineering Department, and also helps
to keep the life span of the vulcanizer tools. The construction aspect of this project has
successfully been carried out tested and certified for good function. It is a part of any
contribution toward improving our technological education which will go along way to
support our quest for self reliance. This project has exposed us more to the practical
aspect of my course and has widened the scope of my proficiency in engineering
drawing. This literature review is a source of information to those who may wish to make
research more on the vulcanizing toolbox it’s design and construction. Finally this will
always call for innovation through further creative which invariably may result to new
design and constructions improve vulcanizing toolbox.

5.1 RECOMMENDATION

I strongly recommend this research project to future researchers in the field if metal
fabrication and welding in general mechanical considering on this project. This justified
judging from it in expansiveness easy maintenance and its functional efficiency when this
present one is compared with the mechanical toolbox.
I recommend that further research should be carry out on the same project in order to
ensure improvement of the present one in the area of the material that constitute the
vulcanizing toolbox. Technology should not be static but dynamic in nature since the
bedrock of any nation development is one technology.
