Activity:
The SLAC took place on Lucapon South Elementary School on December 17, 2020. Miss
Jane A. Maravilla lead the opening prayer and followed by the singing of the National Anthem
conducted by Mrs. Eliza F. Meredor. A zumba dance energized the participants and the roll call was
done afterwards by Mrs. Mary Jean Leonen. A complete attendance of the teacher participants was
noted. Mrs. Analyn M. Gumangan, our school principal gave her opening message. She also
emphasized the importance of the said session for teachers’ well-being and for us to cope the stress
and anxiety during pandemic. The speakers on this session are Mrs. Aileen M. Tongson, Miss
Pamela M. Meroy and Mrs. Maria Gracia Fatima T. Manglicmot. The following topics were
discussed:
a. Importance of mental health awareness
b. Promoting mental health
c. Mental health and coping during COVID-19
The speakers explained well the different topics while the teachers actively participated. All
the participants shared their insights about the importance of being healthy not only physically but
also emotionally and psychologically.
Insight/Note:
As I have learned from the LAC session Mental health awareness is an important issue for all
educators, who are often the first line of defense for their students. Education professionals have
recognized the impact that a student's mental health has on learning and achievement, and they
realize that there's a great deal that can be done to help students with mental health issues. As an
elementary teacher, I welcome the fact that mental health awareness is finally becoming an
important part of a school's function and curriculum.
