1) Sketch the equation

Center: C(7,2)
Radius: 2/3

2) Write the standard equation of the circle with the given properties

Given: (h,k)=(2,-2), (x,y)=(-5,-1)

Solution:
(x-h)^2 + (y-k)^2 = r^2 (x-h)^2 + (y-k)^2 = r^2
((-5) – (2))^2 + ((-1) – (-2))^2 = r^2 (x-2)^2 + (y+2)^2 = 50
(-7)^2 + (1)^2 = r^2
Center: C(2,-2)
49 + 1 = r^2
Radius: 7.07
r^2 = 50
r = 7.07
