Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon is a classical film that nurtures our

nationalism. This film is a form of family fiction that emphasizes the cultural and social
aspects of the Filipinos struggle for independence from the Spanish to the American
colonial period. The movie was directed by Eddie Romero starring Christopher De Leon
and Gloria Diaz.
The video accurately depicts the condition of the Philippines in the nineteenth
century. It was demonstrated that the priests were strong at that time because they had
tight ties with the Spanish government and they also had a substantial amount of cash.
Filipinos were terrified of the Spaniards' harshness, which is why some of them chose to
live in remote places to hide from them. Slavery was clearly present as well as the misuse
of authority. Being against the government is a suicidal act, which is why revolutionary
parties are so cautious about the acts they plan to do.
Also, it was stated that the term Filipinos was made because of what had happened
in the past. In addition, the educational system was the other development I noticed in
the Philippines during 19th century, as shown in the film. Although education is not
currently widely available across the Philippines, it existed throughout their time, notably
in Manila. However, education is only available to those who can pay it. For the time
being, it was not available to all Filipinos.
Lastly, the film depicted the growth of culture. Because of what the Spaniards
make them think, the Filipinos portrayed in the film are unable to identify themselves as
Filipinos. However, in the last moment, especially after Kulas realizes everything, he
realizes that he is a Filipino as well, and that as a Filipino, he must fight for their freedom
and independence from the colonizers.
