Celebration of Nutrition week 2021 to aware pregnant women, young girls ,

lacting mothers and farmers on the benefits as well as the nutrition


parameter of millets under Odisha Millets Mission, Khairput .

On the eve of Nutrition week a detailed programme was scheduled from 2 nd September to
7th September in different GPs and villages of Khairput block to orient pregnant women,
young girls, lactating mothers and farmers on the nutritional value of millets. National
Nutrition week is celebrated every year throughout the country to sensitise SOCIETY on the
healthy eating lifestyle, issues on malnutrition and undernutrition, Benefits of various
nutritional food consumption to ensure proper care of their health and well-being .
Nutrition is the science of practice of consuming and utilizing foods. A balanced diet is
important for good health and well-being. People should include a healthy diet in their daily
routine like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, fat free milk, Millets, pulses, oil seeds etc. Full
of nutritional food makes the immune system strong.
In the year 1982 National Nutrition week celebration was started by the Government of
India to spread awareness and encourage people to understand the importance of Nutrition
and sustainable Lifestyle. Malnutrition is a main constraint in the overall development of the
country so it is necessary to overcome it by aware society.
Under the nutrition week celebration programme a joint collaboration of different
departments i.e. ICDS , Mission shakti and Madhyam foundation has initiated  different
programmes under Khairput Block to sensitize people on the benefits of healthy nutrition
including millets  in the diet. The programmes were  celebrated in different areas including
GP offices , Anganwadi centres and Block office premises to aware society on the nutritional
impact on their lifestyle . Odisha millets mission plays an important role to promote a lot of
activity under the programme specially to sensitize society on the benefits of millets on the
eve of Nutrition week . Awareness ratha was decorated with a lot of generic information on
the nutritional value of millets and  pamphlets were also distributed during the campaign to
create awarness. The awareness ratha was roaming around all the gram panchayat to create
awareness on the Nutrition parameter of millets .
The programme was inaugurated at Podaghat GP and CDPO ICDS , supervisor, Anganwadi
workers, BPC Mission shakti, Sarpanch, Project coordinator madhyam foundation, BPC
OMM, ABPC OMM , CEO OMM , CRPs , Pregnant women , lactic mothers and young girls
were  also present in the programme . Different luscious recipes i.e. Bara, Ladoo, Cake,
Rosogola, were prepared using millets to give an orientation on the recipes and nutritional
values . CDPO, ICDs clearly explained the benefits of millets and encourage women's to
consume millet based recipes to maintain their physical wellness . Sarpanch of the gram
panchayat is also explained about the benefits of millets and encourage participant to
consume it regularly to get maximum benefits .Project coordinator Madhyam foundation
also add some valuable points on the benefits of millets during the discussion .
Simultaneously awareness programmes were conducted in govindpalli , , K.gumma and
Khairput GPs to sensitize participants on the benefits of millets . Millet based recipes were
served during the programme to give the participant a extensive insights about millet based
items and other dietary items for a healthy and balanced life style .
 
A block level orientation programme was also organized on dated on 6.09.2021 at Block
conference hall, Khairput . The chief guests were BDO Khairput , Tahasildar Khariput , BPC
OLM, also participant from ICDS , Mission shakti and OMM staffs were present in the
orientation programme.  Tasildar khairput explained about the benefits of millets,
nutritional values and health benefits by consumption. BDO, Khairput also explained that
millets are high rich in dietary fibers , treats coronary artery disorder , Helps in preventing
celiac disease, Control diabetes , Good source of antioxidant , helps in slowing down the
muscle degradation and also helps in relieving menstrual cramps . Millets also contain 7-
12% of protein, 2-5% of fat , 65-75% of carbohydrate and 15-20% dietary fibres . Encourage
particularly women to include millet in the daily diet routine so that they can maintain a
healthy prosperous life style. In this programme various millets-based food were also served
to the participant to create a massive awareness on the value addition and nutritional value
of millets.
