Instruction: Answer the given question below.
1. In your own understanding what is “Contemporary Performing Arts”?
_The contemporary performing arts are expressions like music, dance, and show which are
performed for a crowd of people. It is not the same as visual expressions, which is when
craftsmen use paint, material or different materials to make physical or static workmanship
objects. Live exhibitions before a crowd of people are a type of entertainment. Contemporary
performance is frequently about thoughts and concerns, instead of exclusively the aesthetic.
Instructions: Fill in the graphic organizer below with examples of their form arts “music” and “dance”.
It is concerned with
combining vocal or Kind of performing art
instrumental sounds for form consisting of
beauty of form or sequences of
emotional expression movement, either
improvised or
purposefully selected.
With a smile, is the biggest song that the Eraserheads released in their second album “Circus and Aloha
Milkyway”. Eraserheads chief songwriter Ely Buendia’s love for the beatles shone through this optimistic ballad.
The song becomes popular to the teenagers and young listeners.
According to some listeners of the song, the song is meant for a man who comforts a girl in trouble assuring
that he’ll do everything, but as we listen the song carefully and watch the music video made by the
Eraserheads itself; the song is all about kids who are suffering from illness comforting them that whatever
happens they should leave a smile to their faces knowing how difficult it could be, they still tend to smile and
fight for their lives. In the first verse of the song, there is a line saying ”You can’t win at everything but you
can try”, the artists are telling the girl; there is no assurance that she will win over the disease she is
overcoming with but she could fight it over and try to live longer. Also the chorus of the song is telling that in
this, people may attack you by your appearance and may discourage you but you shouldn’t let these things to
bring you down, and with a little prayer and a song it’ll be alright.
In the last part of the lyrics of the music, “You’ll get by with a smile, now it’s time to kiss away those tears
goodbye.” This is the saddest part of the song wherein the girl died and at the same time the good part of it
since in the song, there is a celebration to the end which means all the pain will now goes by and all her
difficulties have all gone.
Overall, the song is all about children who are fighting with disease such as cancer, determining how difficult it
is to live and fight, the Eraserheads are encouraging them to smile. We find it very sweet of the band that
they have this thing on making the children encouraged to fight, smile and to not worry on the things that
might happen. And that things are going to be better if we wear those smiles.
