FASHION DESIGNER

Fashion design is the art of the application of design and aesthetics or natural beauty

to clothing and accessories. Fashion design is influenced by cultural and social lattitudes, and has
varied over time and place. Fashion designers work in a number of ways in designing clothing
and accessories. Some work alone or as part of a team. They attempt to satisfy consumer desire
for aesthetically designed clothing; and, because of the time required to bring a garment onto the
market, must at times anticipate changing consumer tastes.

Fashion designers attempt to design clothes which are functional as well as aesthetically
pleasing. They must consider who is likely to wear a garment and the situations in which it will
be worn. They have a wide range and combinations of materials to work with and a wide range
of colors, patterns and styles to choose from. Though most clothing worn for everyday wear fall
within a narrow range of conventional styles, unusual garments are usually sought for special
occasions, such as evening wear or party dresses.

Some clothes are made specifically for an individual, as in the case of haute couture. Today,
most clothing is designed for the mass market, especially casual and every-day wear.

INTERNATIONAL
PATRICK KELLY:-
Patrick Kelly (c. September 24, 1954 – January 1, 1990) was a Vicksburg,
Mississippi, U.S. born, Paris-based women's wear designer and a founder of the fashion house
Patrick Kelly Paris. Kelly achieved his greatest commercial success in the late 1980's and in
1988 Kelly became both the first American and the first person of color to be admitted as a
member of the Chambre syndicale du prêt-à-porter des couturiers et des créateurs de mode. Kelly
died at age 35 on New Year's Day, 1990. Originally Kelly's causes of death were reported to be
bone marrow disease and a brain tumor, but the actual cause of death is now acknowledged to be
complications of AIDS.

Working from Paris, Kelly produced collections for five years, beginning in 1985 and continuing
until his death in 1990. After receiving financial backing from the U.S. based fashion
conglomerate Warnaco in July, 1987, Kelly was able to hire a staff and eventually achieve
wholesale sales of US $7.2 million per year. Kelly's designs were sold in upscale retailers
including Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale's and were worn by celebrities
including Isabella Rossellini, Bette Davis, Cicely Tyson and Grace Jones. Kelly's designs
frequently incorporated bright colors, were often embellished with ribbons and buttons and
suggested a sense of whimsy and joy while sometimes addressing difficult issues of race and
culture using motifs such as watermelon and the golliwog. In 1988, having been sponsored
by Yves Saint Laurent chairman Pierre Bergé, Kelly became both the first American and the first
person of color to be admitted to the Chambre syndicale du prêt-à-porter des couturiers et des
créateurs de mode.

In 2004, The Brooklyn Museum presented Patrick Kelly: A Retrospective, a show featuring more

than sixty Kelly designs.

expressed his vision of menswear. The Council of Fashion Designer of America recognized his
designing talent and bestowed to him the Menswear Designer of the Year back to back in 1989-

TIM HAMILTON :-
Tim Hamilton (born 1971) is an American fashion designer. He was born in Iowa and moved to
New York in 1991. He began his career atRalph Lauren and moved onto J Crew where he helped
to start Madewell. He launched his own line thereafter.

Hamilton is primarily known as a menswear designer since his Fall 2007 collection. In men’s
wear, Hamilton continues to blur the line between abstract design and fine craftsmanship. He
mixes innovative ornamental details and geometric elements with functional simplicity and
authentic craft production. This leads to his street-wear meets tailoring look. He won
the CFDA/Swarovski Award for emerging menswear designer in 2009.

The brand began in New York and was showcased at presentations during New York Fashion
Week, however Hamilton decided to do his first menswear runway show in Paris in June 2009,
following an invitation from the French Fashion Syndicate. He is the first American based
designer to show during Paris Men’s Fashion week. He presented an eccentric space inspired S/S
’10 collection at the Palais Brogniart, sending his models down the runway emanating an airy
feel of transparency. Despite this sudden relocation to Paris, Tim Hamilton is going to keep a
presence in New York, thus honoring his win of the CFDA Swarovski Award for Emerging
Men’s Wear Designer in 2009.[1]

Alongside men’s wear, Tim Hamilton launched his first women’s collection for the A/W ’09
season. The collection was shown during Paris Fashion Week in March 2009. The Tim Hamilton
woman has a strong character. “She knows what she wants,” say Hamilton. This attitude is
reflected through bold shapes, a minimal color palette, and an emphasis on textured patterns, all
done while remaining feminine with an innate sense of elegance.

Hamilton’s collections are sold at top luxury shops around the world. Despite his global success,
Tim Hamilton is still a small, independently backed company with offices in New York and
Paris.

born in Tunisia from Sicilian parents and came to Paris to set up his cloth and perfume lines in
1962. By 1968 his business was a huge success. He was well known for making glamorous party
dresses for the elite of French society. Often his creations featured ornate beading and daring cut
outs. He was also known to use brightly colored chains woven onto shirts to make intricate
chainmail dresses and tops. Over the course of his long career he dressed numerous celebrities
including Dalida, Sophia Loren, Raquel Welch, Marisa Berenson, Claudia Cardinale, Isabelle
Adjani, Kate Winslet and Nicole Kidman.

Azzaro's collections are always named alphabetically by season. The first season's collection
featured clothing all given names starting with an A, the next with B names and so on. Azzaro
admitted that he would sometimes skip a letter like Q, X or Z because it was too hard to find
names for those letters.

Azzaro released a wide range of products including women's and men's clothing lines and
accessories as well as a wide range of successful fragrances. in 1975 he created his first
fragrance for women, 'Couture', which became his signature scent. Over time Azzaro became
known for his fragrances as much as his clothing. His favourite colour was Blue as he quoted:
"The Blue coulour is the colour that suits me". His inspirations came from the surroundings of
his Country of Birth, Tunisia: "I let myself get carried by the atmosphere of the country of my
childhood with its spiced odors, its colors, its flowers and its perfumes. It is the country where I
really become myself, the country where my preferred color is everywhere, azure of the sea and
the sky.”

Loris Azzaro died at the age of 70 in Paris France. In 2004 French designer Vanessa Seward took
over as head designer of the Azzaro label. The Azzaro label continues to release clothing,
original Loris Azzaro vintage pieces are still very much in demand.

In October of 2006, a new chapter of the renaissance opens up when

the Andorran group Reig makes the acquisition of the company Azzaro. The Reig group is an
essential actor of the economy of the Principality of Andorra, assets in seven countries, in the
areas of de luxe hotel business, estate, tobacco, bank and fashion.

Since June of 2007, Nathalie Franson, eleven years of experience with Chanel, left her position
