KITCHEN ESSENTIALS MODULE 2

1. Nutrition is provide the energy that we need to stay warm as well as our muscle, grow new cell and
repair damaged ones.

2. The major sources of nutrients is proteins : meat, dairy, legumes, nuts, seafood and eggs
Carbohydrates: pasta, rice, cereals, breads, potatoes, milk, fruit, sugar Lipids (most commonly called
fats): oils, butter, margarine, nuts, seeds, avocados and olives, meat and seafood

3. It is important to have a well-balanced diet. While each of the individual nutrients discussed above
are important, it is important that a person take in a combination of all of them to make a well-balanced
diet. Together they work to keep the body working at its optimum level.

ACTIVITY 2

1. The calories we consume provide energy and nutrients that our bodies require. Our best health
comes from making good food choices from among carbohydrates, proteins and fats are three major
sources of calorie. In the Philippines government states that the average man needs 2,700 kcal per day
and the average woman needs 2,200 kcal per day. Not everybody needs the same number of calories
each day. People have different metabolisms that burn energy at different rates, and some people have
more active lifestyles than others.

2. These are the three major sources of nutrients in diet is whole grains fresh fruits, vegetables, low fat
dairy products. The fresh fruits is the best choice in nutritional standpoint and its good source in fiber
while the vegetables is good for the diet in a sense these should make up the bulk of our daily food
choices and lastly low fat dairy products can.

3. The difference between the saturated mono and polyunsaturated fats is the Monounsaturated fats is
type of unsaturated fat contains only one double bond in its structure. It contains to help to raise the
HDL in a person's blood pressure while Polyunsaturated fats is type of unsaturated fat contains two or
more double bonds in their structure. These unhealthy fats can increase your risk for heart disease and
other health problems.
