I. PREPARATION

 Establish you purpose.


“Why do I want to inform, entertain, or persuade
the audience about my topic?”
 Specify your persona as a writer (tone, language and
level setting).
“Will you be a columnist, an activist, a politician, or
a lawyer?”
 Know your target audience.
 Think of the topic and type of output you will produce.

II. MODELING (REFERENCE )

 Look at different works which are similar in nature with


the paper you are about to write.

 Analyze the features such as organization, structure,


and language use of the sample texts to determine how
they achieved their purpose.

 Choose excellent quality model papers.


III. GENERATING IDEAS

 Brainstorming – list as many ideas as you can think of.

 Free writing – let the ideas flow freely by writing them


down in sentences.

 Clustering/Making an idea map


IV. FOCUSING ON A TOPIC

 Narrow down your general topic

 Think of questions related to your specific


purpose.

 The answer may lead to your initial thesis


statement.
V. ORGANIZING IDEAS/OUTLINING

 Organize your ideas in an outline.


1. Answer the question that leads to your thesis
statement.

2. Write the subtopics for each main idea.

3. Write the supporting details for each of the subtopics.


VI. DRAFTING

 Focus on the content and organization

 Build the credibility of your paper.

 When using the internet, check the website address


and look for the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) .
• Know the owner of the site by looking at the top-level domain.

Reliable sources:
• Google scholar or Google
Books
• .edu and .gov links
NOTE:
VII. FEEDBACK

 A response to the written work which focuses on all


aspects of writing.

 This focuses more on the content, structure,


organization, and clarity of the message.

 This can be classified into three:

1. self-feedback

2. peer feedback

3. teacher feedback
Here are some questions to be used during the
feedback stage.
VIII. REVISING

 Revision is the act of improving the original


paper by applying changes based on the
feedback.

 Apply critical thinking and evaluation skills


when considering the comments.

 If time permits, give yourself two to three days


before starting your revision (Breaks are
necessary.)
IX. EDITING

 The finishing stage (Editing & Proofreading)

▪ Editing focuses on grammar and language.

▪ Proofreading focuses on typography and mechanics.

X. PUBLISHING

 Showcase your work by:

▪ Posting it social networking sites such as blogs, Facebook,


and more reputable research-sharing websites such as
academia.edu.

▪ Come up with a book or magazine out your essays by creating


a class blog which will feature everyone’s works.
