INTRODUCTION
Creating animations has always been considered as one of the most complex aspects of graphic
design that requires specific software and technological expertise. It is a time-intensive activity that requires
heavy software and high-speed computers. However, over the past few years, the emergence of different
tools in Traditional animation and online presentation and animation tools have simplified the process of
creating animations.

WHAT IS ANIMATION?

- Animation is the process of designing, drawing, making layouts and preparation of photographic sequences which are
integrated in the multimedia and gaming products. Animation involves the exploitation and management of still images to
generate the illusion of movement. A person who creates animations is called animator. He / she use various computer
technologies to capture the still images and then to animate these in desired sequence.

TYPES OF ANIMATION

Traditional animation (cel animation or hand-drawn animation) - Traditional animation, images are drawn or painted
by hand on transparent celluloid sheets to be photographed and exhibited on film.
Stop motion animation (Claymation, Cut-outs) - is an animation technique where an object is photograph one frame
at a time by changing its location or action close to the previous one or small increments and played sequentially to
create illusion of motion.
Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI)- todays animation is a technique of creating animation or moving images with
the use of computer.
2D-animation- stands for the two-dimensional animation, meaning that characters and backgrounds in this kind of
projects are created in the two-dimensional, flat space.
3D-animation-Animating objects that appear in a three-dimensional space. They can be rotated and moved like real
objects.

In the animation industry, its main goal is produce an end product of great art. Large-scale animation production is achieved using an
assembly line approach with discreet production steps to increase productivity and efficiency. Each step is sorted into individual
departments. There is a master schedule on how much footage of film output is expected every week. Managing the production
process and schedule is a very active process. Part of the process is accomplishing different forms and sheets to achieve its goal.

FORM USED IN DOING THE

TASK

Production schedule is a
product plan on how the
production budget will
be spent over a given
timescale for every
phase of filmmaking. It
indicates the animator’s
name, task, equipment,
duration, and date.

Requisition slip an official form to which a request is made.

In animation, a requisition slip indicates the date,
animator’s name, present footage load, and number of
scenes.
REQUISITION PROCEDURES

In the recent years, there have been so many changes in the animation production in terms of managing the production
process. Accomplishing a requisition slip in any animation production may vary. Requisition slip is done to determine the
scene and load footage to be given to the animator. The animation director is responsible for evaluating scenes to the
animators from his or her lineup. The animation production assistant will give the requisition slip to the animator which
will be turned over to the assistant director. The assistant director evaluates the slip that indicates the run assignment
previously made to the animator. After all the scenes are encoded by the animation production assistant, the animator
works on the scenes. The animator gets the requisition slip back with the scene folders after the approval of the
animation director. The animation production assistant checks the actual footage and informs the animator in case there
are discrepancies. Then the scene folder will be forwarded to the line test operator.

Checking and Inspecting Materials, Tools, and Equipment

It is important to inspect and check materials and tools for defects and damages before receiving them so that one can ask for
replacement if found defective. Here are ways to check whether materials are in good condition and complete.

 Check if the materials and tools are complete in terms of quantity and specification.
 Check the physical condition of tools. Ensure that the parts are complete and free from damages.
 Check the accessories of the materials and tools. Make sure there is nothing missing.
 If any of the materials or tools is found missing or defective, inform it immediately to the person in charge.
 Secure a replacement for the material or tool found missing or tool found defective.
 Sign the requisition form upon receiving the materials and tools to ensure that you receive them.
 Always handle the materials and tools carefully.

Assessing the Condition of Tools and Equipment for Proper Operation and Safety

In any workplace, it is important to follow the basic rules governing the use of hand tools to avoid accidents and injuries. Below are
ways to check the safety use of tools:

Choose the right tool for the job.

If defects are seen, detected, or noticed, immediately dispose the said tool to avoid any possible injury.
Pointed tools such as pencils must not be placed in one’s pocket.
Use only tools in good conditions.
Store the tools and materials when not in use.
Tools handles should be kept dry to prevent slipping when in use.
Tools must be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines and must be suitable for the task for which they are to
be used.
The right protective equipment for the tool and activity must be used.
Tools must be checked for any damage. In case of damage, label the tool as faulty or defective and organize a repair or
replacement.
Keep electrical power tools from dust and dirt and make sure they are free of oil and grease.
Store commonly used tools in an easy-to-reach location.
Tools and equipment must be cleaned after use.
Keep one’s working area tidy. This will improve productivity and avoid injuries of one’swork.
All equipment should have a maintenance schedule.
Always complete the task described on the schedule at the required time. This will help keep the equipment in safe working
order.
