1.What comes first in your mind when you hear the name, Sigmund Freud?

When I always hear Sigmund Freud, it signifies that he is one of the proponents in
Psychology. Also, he did many observations that made him notable, such as ID,
Ego, and Super Ego, Psychoanalytic theory, and other relevant facts. Sigmund
Freud is a great man who observe and gave credible and scientific answers for
misconception about mind.

2.What is your prior knowledge about Sigmund Freud’s Psychoanalytic Theory?

As a student, I learned and got prior knowledge about Sigmund Freud’s


Psychoanalytic Theory that every people have different level of mind including
the Conscious Level, Pre-conscious Level, and Sub-Conscious Level. In Conscious
Level, people are aware about their surrounding, whereas in Pre-conscious
Level, people’s memories and hidden experiences were put. In sub-conscious
level, people’s awareness is dormant and not given any attention.

Direction: Search for the ‘mature defense mechanisms’. Provide an example of each
mature defense mechanism. Think and list down at least two (2)
situations/events/circumstances/incidents in your life as an adolescent wherein you have
applied those mature defense mechanisms. Think and list down at least two (2) possible
situations/events/circumstances/incidents in your life as a future educator, wherein you
can practice/apply those mature defense mechanisms.

There are four mature defense mechanism, which includes sublimation (A man
who has violent actions decided to be part of boxing team), altruism (A politician
that is concluded to be corrupt tend to help the normal citizens) and (people
involve in gang tend to organize charity help for children). In humour (A child
singing before dental operation) and (A patient playing comedy movies before
orthopedic operation). In suppression (people who have not yet registered in
COMELEC wanted to do other things before going to the COMELEC offices to
register) and (People who wanted to go to park before doing modules).

As a facilitator of learning, I may use different defense mechanism for the benefit
of my learners. To begin with, I may use humor in teaching that learners are given
the opportunity to deal with every activity with appropriateness and good nature
that they may think creatively and constructive. And using altruism may help to
boost someone’s integrity, wherein students may do good that would help them
construct better characteristics. Perhaps, students should be able to help one
another to establish great understanding between them and gain integrity.
