Material: Used short-cuts:

100% cotton – Camilla by Madame Tricote Paris
Weight: Fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi) o - Chain (CH)
A hook – size 2,5 mm • - Slip stitch (SlSt)
ı - Single crochet (SC)
Colours:
5054, 0000, 999, 5308, 5316, 5322, 5546, 5329, 5049 | - Half double crochet (HDC)
† - Double crochet (DC)
Note:
You could use also the similar yarn: Δ - Beginning
Catania by Schachenmayr nomotta Δ - End
Other materials:
black fine cotton, needle with the blunt tip, fibre-fill, small polystyrene balls, small plastic
bag.
The size of the finished owl is 15 cm high, 13 cm wide (from one side).
Let’s goJ :
Head
Work with brown cotton, with hook No. 2,5
Beginning – 56 CH – join in the circle. Work in the circle and go around by spiral lines -
10 rounds.
In the 11th round crochet every 6th and 7th stitch together – repeat 7 times
In the 12th round crochet every 5th and 6th stitch together – repeat 7 times
Continue by this way 4 rounds, to close all of the stitches and then end the work.
With light blue yarns sew on the ears.
Body:
Work with brown color with hook No. 2,5 mm: make CH 22 – join in the circle with SlSt.
Crochet in spiral rounds – 60 rounds and end the work. You will have a roll.
Eyes
Follow the diagram or text below, please. All parts of eyes make two times, please.

Big eye: Middle of the eye:

Work with green cotton, hook No. 2,5 Work with black cotton, hook No. 2,5.
Beginning: CH 5, join in the circle with Beginning: CH 4, join in the circle with

1st round: CH 3 as 1st DC, DC 12, join 1st round: SC 9, join with 1 Sl St

2nd round: CH 3 as 1st DC, 2 DC in the 2nd round: CH 3 as 1st DC, 2 DC in the
one stitch – 12 times, join with 1 Sl St one stitch – 8 times, join with 1 Sl St
and end work. and end work.
Neaten loose threads. Middle parts of eyes sew onto green parts with black fine cotton
and all eyes sew onto head with turquoise yarn.
Wings:
Follow the diagrams or text below, please. All parts of wings make two times, please.

Work with light green cotton, hook 2,5 mm.

Beginning: CH 7
1st round: 6 SC
2nd round: CH 1, SC 4, HDC 1, DC 1, 5 DS in the last stitch – go around back – DC 1,
HDC 1, SC 4, join with 1 Sl St, end the work.

Work with raspberry cotton, hook 2,5 mm.

Beginning: CH 11
1st round: SC 10
2nd round: Leave the first stitch, SC 4, HDC 1, DC 4, 5 DS in the last stitch – go around
back – DC 4, HDC 1, SC 5, join with 1 Sl St
3rd round: CH 1, SC 6, HDC 1, DC 2, 2 DS in one stitch – 6 times, DC 2, HDC 1, SC 6,
join with 1 Sl St and end work.
4th round: CH 1, SC 11, SC 7, SC 12, join with 2 Sl St and end work.
Neaten loose threads and sew onto green parts of wings on raspberry parts.
Bill and legs

Follow the diagrams or text below. Make the bill one time and legs two times, please.

Work with orange cotton, hook No. 2,5.

Beginning: CH 5
1st row: SC 5 - turn
2nd row: crochet 2 SC together, SC 1, crochet 2 SC together - turn
3rd row: 3 CH as 1st DC, DC 2 -turn
4th row: go around – CH 1, SC 5, in the corner 2 SC in one stitch, SC 3, in the corner 2
Sc in one stitch, SC 5, 2 Sl St, end work.
Neaten loose threads and sew the bill on the head.

Work with orange cotton, hook No. 2,5.

Beginning: CH 4, join in the circle with 1 Sl St
1st round: CH 3 as a 1st DC, 10 DC
2nd round: continue back with no turn (see arrow at the diagram) – CH 1, SC 7, 1 Sl St,
end work.
You have prepared all crocheted part of Owl rattle :-)
Finishing:
HEAD - I put the plastic bag strip around all perimeter of the inside space of the owl’s
head, for bigger fun and attractivity for children. The head gives the pleasant rustling
sound J – see the picture below, please.
Fill the inside space of head with fibre-fill to be the head full filled. See the picture below,
please.
BODY – sew one end of the roll. Fill the roll with the polystyrene balls until this moment
to be full filled and when you turn it in the circle – there would be no crinkles. You could
also fill it with fibre fill – it is up to you - what will be better for you. Then sew other end
of the roll and join the roll in the circle. See picture below remark, please.
Remark! When you are filling the roll by polystyrene balls – then works VERY
fast and VERY carefully, when you sew the end of rolls together, because the
small polystyrene balls could be very dangerous for your children, when goes
away from roll, when it will be not sewed VERY carefully.
“Bog” this circle in the head, by sewed part. Then sew on the head and body together.
Sew on the margins of head on the body of the owl very fast; sew it also in the middle of
head under the bill. See the pictures below, please.
Sew on the wings and legs onto body. The wings sew on the body of owl with turquoise
cotton - and your owl rattle is finished :-)
