2.1 Introduction

The PCS-Torch is an auxiliary ordering tool for the PCS S series products of NR Electric. It is
recommended to run on a MS Windows 7/10 operating system.

This tool helps to create a complete order code with detailed specifications based on the selection
of functional options such as software and hardware. This tool supports engineering methods to
2
create models of various types of the PCS S series protection, measurement and control devices
in power substations, and can view or select device hardware and software configurations before
sales. Meanwhile, it could preview device rear modules, and import or export the device
configuration results in the form of Excel table.

The model library of all the types of device could be updated online automatically or offline
manually to facilitate the access of the latest functions of PCS S series devices.

2.2 Create New Project

PCS-Torch manages a project according to the structure of "Project (Substation)"→"Voltage

Level"→"Bay"→"Device" as shown in Figure 2.2-1, however, it also supports to create a new
device under the node of "Substation" or "Voltage Level" directly.

 By MOT lib

In the pop-up dialog box, enter the device name, select the device type and MOT version or
firmware version.

 Based on MOT version

Select the main MOT version (R1, R2……) so that PCS-Torch will automatically search
the latest archived firmware version corresponding to such main MOT version, and
create the MOT configuration.

Main MOT version is compatible with all firmware versions that begin with
main MOT version (except disabled firmware version). For example, if
main MOT version is "R1", it is compatible with all firmware version R1.**.

 Based on firmware version

Input the firmware version so that PCS-Torch will create the device MOT configuration
according to such firmware version automatically except that the input firmware version
is disabled or does not exist.

 By MOT code

In the pop-up dialog box, enter the required MOT code.

 Without specific firmware version

PCS-Torch will automatically search the latest archived firmware version corresponding
to main MOT version, and create the MOT configuration.

 With specific firmware version

PCS-Torch will create the device MOT configuration according to such firmware version
automatically except that the input firmware version is disabled or does not exist.

2.4 Project Management

PCS-Torch can export MOT information of a whole substation, and supports the operations of
copy, paste and rename.

2.5 MOT Configuration Interface

In the MOT configuration interface, the integral ordering code is displayed at the top. The detailed
MOT information is shown in a row/column format. The first column indicates MOT item, the
second column indicates available options corresponding to each item, the third column indicates
the description about the chosen option, and the fourth column indicates the ordering code
corresponding to the chosen option.

Double-click the cell in the "Option" column to switch the option from drop-down box. When the
contents of the cell in the "Option" column is changed, the corresponding contents of the
"Description" and "Code" columns in the same row are changed synchronously, and the
corresponding bit of ordering code is also changed synchronously. There is possibly a mandatory
binding rule or mutual exclusion rule among MOT items. The option will be chosen fixedly if an
option's mandatory binding rule is activated. The option will be hidden if an option's mutual
exclusion rule is activated. For an option that is not applicable, the row is grey and not selectable.

2.8 MOT Library Management

The latest MOT library is included when PCS-Torch is released. The MOT library contains MOT
templates of each device, which are stored in the directory according to the device type. Each
directory contains all historical versions of the device for the MOT template. The path of MOT

library is "installation directory→PCS-Torch→motLib". There are two methods to upgrade the MOT

library. Please select one from the menu bar “Edit”.

1. Update the MOT library online

Firstly, PCS-Torch reads a list of MOT templates for all devices from the server, and compares
them with local MOT library. The user can select the MOT template that needs to be updated, and
PCS-Torch downloads the corresponding MOT template file from the server.

2. Import the MOT library locally

It takes a long time to update the MOT library by connecting to the server, and the user can
directly import the latest MOT library if the network conditions are not good (The latest MOT
template library can be gained by mail firstly).

This option is related to “Installation Mode”. When the installation mode

chooses "Surface", the front side of the device can support two kinds of
protection class (IP52 and IP54). For other installation modes, only IP52 is
supported, and "Front Side Protection Class" will be always fixed as
"IP52".

3.6.4 Harsh Environment Conformal Coating

For some harsh operating conditions, such as petrochemical project (chemical plant, refinery),
underground project (metro, underground pipe gallery, coal mine), coastal areas (such as Hong
Kong, offshore wind power), high-humidity-hot areas (such as Southeast Asia, Africa), the device
is often in the windy, dusty or hot-and-humid environment, there are risks such as short circuit,
corrosion, module damage, etc., so the harsh environment conformal coating treatment is often
needed to provide protection against extreme moisture, corrosive gases, aggressive dust, etc.

The option is used to select whether or not the harsh environment conformal coating treatment is
needed. If "Required" is selected, the harsh environment conformal coating treatment for the
whole device will be done before delivery.

3.8.3 Slot02

The option is used to select the I/O module located in slot No.2, and is chosen as "12CT (1A/5A)"
fixedly, meaning 12 AC current inputs, the secondary rated current is adaptive between 1A and
5A.

3.8.4 Slot03

Currently, the option is used as reserved bit and it is chosen as "Not required" fixedly.

3.8.5 Slot04
This option is used to select the extended I/O module located in slot No.4.
3
 "Not required": the extended I/O module located in slot No.4 is not required.
