1. Read the short story below.


2. Answer the questions follow.
a. How do turtles become endangered?

b. What does “taking the eggs would mean taking their lives” mean?

One day, Cheska and Charles were making sand castle at the beach. Suddenly
they saw a big turtle from a distance burying eggs on the sand. They were so happy to
see a big with its eggs that they came closer to it. Charles asked Cheska to capture the
turtle and make it as their pet. But Cheska refused to do it. She told Charles the risk of
capturing it. “The turtle may die if you take it out from its natural habitat”, Cheska said.
Then a group of children came closer to the eggs and attempted to get some pieces. But
Cheska stopped them and explained to the children that taking eggs would mean taking
their lives as well. The children understood her, so they all walked away. Cheska and
Charles waited until the turtle was able to bury its eggs. After seeing the eggs were
secured, they waited for the turtle to go back to the water to ensure that the turtle was
safe, they went back to their sand castle.
