2011 Hastings University
Date Announced
A session of our three-day Hastings University is
scheduled for September 12-14, 2011.
Class begins on Monday at 8 a.m. and concludes
on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Augmenting class time
are plant tours, lab tours, product demonstrations
and video presentations.
There is no charge for the training session.
Participants are responsible for securing and
paying for their transportation to and from
Kearney, Nebraska. While in Kearney, Hastings
Filters will pick up the room and board expenses
of participants.
If interested in participating in the 2011 class,
call Julie Sheckler at 308-233-9237 to secure
class space. You will need to supply the names of
attendees, company name, customer number and
your District Sales Manager’s name.
Holiday closing
In observation of Memorial Day, Hastings
Filters’ plants and offices in the United States
will be closed as follows:

 Be careful when indirect (Back Door) crossing

What is an indirect or “back door” cross? An indirect cross is common practice where, for
example, a Hastings filter is crossed to an original equipment filter indirectly as the result
of a cross to a competitor’s filter.

In this example, the Hastings filter is not listed as a cross to the original equipment filter
(OE), however, a competitor’s filter is listed as a cross to both the OE and Hastings filters.

If the competitor’s filter crosses to both the OE and Hastings, should we assume that the
Hastings filter is then a proper cross to the OE? Not necessarily. In this case, the Hastings
filter is a proper cross to the competitor’s filter, however, there is no guarantee that the
competitor’s filter is a proper cross to this OE filter. Simply put, we have no control over
how our competitors arrive at what they consider a proper cross back to the OE. Their
product may fit the application, but may not protect the application. This is commonly
referred to in the industry as a “will-fit”, as the filter will fit the application but may not
protect it.

The recommended practice is to confirm the direct cross of a Hastings product to the OE in
our catalog cross-reference, or, to determine the correct Hastings product to use via our
catalog application listing.
