Drive-based Synchronism

SINAMICS S120 with DCB Extension

Unrestricted | © Siemens 2021

Motion Control directly inside the drive

Using the performance of the drive

Extensive motion functionality available –

Positioning, electronic gearbox, cam, print
mark correction, etc.

Integrated communication interface –

controlling the application by:
- SIMATIC function block (S7-1200/1500)
and/or
- Digital-/Analogue inputs

Graphical configuration of synchronism by

using the optional commissioning assistant or
TIA Add-In

Motion Control inside the drive – including optional SIMATIC PLC control

The application can be controlled via SIMATIC Function

block for S7-1200/1500.

With the help of this FB, the drive can be:

• enabled,
• acknowledged (erros),
• homed,
• jogged,
• geardIn,
• geardOut,
• synchronized absolute,
• positioned relative/absolute,
• leading value switchover,
• resynced after homing of the leading axis,
• compensation only forward/backward,
• enable print mark correction,
• adjust dynamic overrides

Motion functionality of Extended Applications

Basic functions:
The Extended Applications have all functions of the Basic
Applications included (see previous slide).

Additional functions:
• Position-depending engaging/disengaging (engaging/disengaging
from synchronous operation at a specific leading axis position and for a
certain engaging-/disengaging length)
• Dynamic-based catch-up/stop function (special here: stopping from
synchronous operation at a specific coupling position – Note: normal
dynamic-based synchronization motions relatively and absolutely are
possible with the basic applications as well)
• Relative/absolute offset setting between leading and following axis
during operation
• 2 parallel cams with switchover functionality (64 cam points each
and interpolation up to 5th order)

Selection help – Which application version to use?

The Basic Applications are new developed from version 5.1. They are less
complex and improved in usability and functionality. Therefore - if the
additional functions of the Extended Applications are not needed - the Basic
Applications should be used preferably.

Design and usability of the Extended Applications is more complex. They

are intended to be used when one of the additional functions (see previous
slide) is needed. It is also pointed to users which already worked with the old
versions (<=V4.0) and want to upgrade them to the new functionality.

Which configurations / quantity structures are possible?

Up to 6 physically existing axes can be calculated on each drive unit (per Control Unit). In addition, up to 6 virtual Drive device
leading axes and measuring wheels can be calculated.
Virtual leading axis 1 Following axis 1

There are 5 different types of possible leading value sources: S*

• Virtual leading axis V*

• Measuring wheel DCC synchronous

(calculated on following axis 1)
• EPOS positioning axis operation

• DCC positioning axis Following axis 2

• Speed/torque controlled axis

Each following axis can synchronize to 2 fixed defined leading value sources.
DCC synchronous
operation
The configuration of leading and following axes can be freely selected.
Virtual leading axis 2 Following axis 3
The following configurations are examples of axes, which can be calculated on one drive unit:
• Up to 6 virtual leading axes (and/or) measuring wheels plus up to 6 DCC following axes
S*
• 1 real leading axis (positioning axis/speed axis) plus up to 5 DCC following axes V*

• …
(calculated on following axis 3) DCC synchronous
operation

A distribution into various synchronous operation groups is possible. For instance, a configuration example could Following axis 4

exist of 3 virtual leading axes with 2 following axes for each leading axis.

The quantity of possible axes is depending on different options (e.g. sampling times, control mode, safety,
DCC synchronous
communication, hardware etc.). Therefore the quantity structure has to be checked from application to operation

application. The application consulting supports determining the possible amount of axes per Control Unit.

Which licenses / software packages are necessary?

Engineering Tools/Licenses:
• For commissioning STARTER V5.4 including installed and licensed DCC option package is used.
(MLFB SINAMICS DCC License: 6AU1810-1HA34-0XA0)
or
SINAMICS STARTDRIVE as of V15.1 with licensed DCC option (e. g. MLFB SINAMICS DCC V17 Combo 6SL3070-4HA01-0XA5)
• When using the optional SIMATIC PLC control blocks LMCSINA, STEP7 Professional as of V15.1 is needed. The blocks are executable on
PLC S7-1200 (STARTER/SCOUT) and S7-1500 (STARTER/SCOUT/STARTDRIVE).

Firmware:
SINAMICS S120 Firmware 5.2 or higher is needed.

Runtime License:
For using the required DCB Extension libraries „GMC“ and „math_extended“ a DCB Extension Runtime License per Control Unit CU320-2 is
needed.
MLFB DCB Extension Runtime License: 6SL3077-0AA00-0AB0
(1 License per device – not per axis!)
(Activation of Trial License Mode for maximum 3 Trial License Periodes with 300 hours each is possible)
