Introduction:
Defination :Stairs are used to create a pedestrian route
between different vertical levels by dividing
the height between the levels into manageable steps.
Needs :The primary purpose of stairs is to provide a
simple and easy means of moving between levels.

Components:

What are stairs?

The type of
stairs suitable for
different situations
will depend on:
The
supporting structure.
The amount and type
of usage it is likely to
receive.
The space available
and its geometry.
The difference
in height between the
top and bottom.
Materials selection

Various types
Requirements of a good staircase:-
Any well planned stair should meet the following criteria for easy, quick and safe
ascent/descent.
Location: It should be located so as to get sufficient light and ventilation with
easy access from all the rooms.
Length of flight: A flight should have not lesser than three risers and not
more than 16 risers.
Pitch of stair: Stairs are pitched (Angle of staircase) from 15 degrees to 55
degrees; however recommended angle is between 25 to 40 degrees. Pitch of long should
be flattened by using landings.
Landing: Width of the landing should not be lass than width of the stair flight at any
case.
Step Proportions: The rise/going of each step in one flight and in flights and
landing between floors should be equal. Any variations may spoil rhythm. The
rise/going are proportioned so as to ensure comfortable access.

TYPOLOGY- SPIRAL STAIR CASE
Advantages of Spiral
Staircases. One of the
biggest advantages spiral
staircases enjoy is the
creation of space. They
don’t occupy the same
amount of space as a
regular staircase, so if
you’re putting in a
second story or a room
addition, a spiral
staircase makes an
excellent option.

COMPONENTS
TYPOLOGY:
SPIRAL STAIRS
spiral staircase is a round stair
system in which the individual
steps connect to a center column,
hence forming a complete circle.
The diameter of the circle creates
the diameter of the staircase. This
article explains the general
features of the spiral staircase
and its varieties.
