in all BOP types, sizes and pressure ranges when creating the
Hydril Pressure Control Annu-FlexTM. A variation of our GX
annular BOP, drilling contractors’ “best annular in the business,”
the Annu-Flex combines a reliable subsea annular blowout
preventer with a maintenance-free, flexible underwater riser
joint. Together, the BOP head/flex joint combination reduces
overall stack height and requires fewer stack connections.

Designed specifically for subsea drilling applications, the
Hydril Pressure Control Annu-Flex enhances the best of
our GX annular BOP’s performance and serviceability with
several distinguishing features:
• A flex-joint design eliminates friction that causes binding
and galling as well as the need for lubrication and pressure
compensation commonly found in ball-type designs
• An elastomer element, the key component of the subsea
flexible joint, is permanently bonded to an inner housing
and outer ring
• A guide ring/wear bushing absorbs through-the-bore wear
during normal operations to protect the elastomer element
and the main housing
• A housing/latched head to retain full working pressure rating

Hydril Pressure Control IP pulsation dampeners extend the
life and increase the efficiency of suction, discharge and
hydraulic flow system lines. Built for industrial and production
applications, the non-wetted shell design reduces maintenance
requirements while accommodating corrosive process liquids.
Flexible and reliable, our dampeners/accumulators:
• Prolong the life of pump valves, fluid cylinders, system
instrumentation, pipe and fittings by moderating pulsations
on the discharge side of reciprocating pumps
• Facilitate acceleration head loss recovery on the suction
side of reciprocating pumps
• Prevent “water hammer” damage by minimizing pressure
surges.
• Arrest thermal expansion by absorbing additional fluid volume
• Protect rotating machinery and lube oil systems by
supplying hydraulic fluid over short intervals during pump
or power failure

Key Features
Hydril Pressure Control IP dampeners are compact, easy to
handle and install, and generally do not require external
support. With an isolated body cavity that confines process
fluid to an elastomeric bladder, the IP features a cost-effective
carbon steel shell and a field-replaceable bottom plate– the
only wetted shell material. Superior corrosion resistance
means IPs are especially well suited for corrosive applications
including waste disposal, salt water injection, and use with
acidic and caustic substances. Additional features include:
• Capacities from 0.5 to 20 gallons
• Elastomeric bladders for a variety of applications
• Customized bottom connections and bottom plate materials
for use with most process liquids

Hydril Pressure Control PASAFE™ pulsation dampeners extend
pump life and enhance piping system performance by
controlling pressure and flow pulsations. Virtually maintenance-
free and available in three specialized flow-through designs,
PASAFE discharge dampeners and suction stabilizers are
engineered specifically to handle abrasive, corrosive, high-
temperature and high-pressure fluids in the most extreme
environments.

Hydril Pressure Control R-PASAFE dampeners are ideal for high-


temperature or chemical applications – including industrial and
oil and gas drilling applications – that can cause compatibility
problems with elastomers. The flow-through design of every
C-PASAFE unit effectively reduces flow and acceleration-
induced pulsations in reverse-osmosis applications. S-PASAFE
combination units, with both large liquid volume and gas
volume, are particularly well suited for slurry and mine
dewatering applications.

All PASAFE pulsation dampeners:


• Increase safety and reliability by requiring no gas precharging
• Handle pressure requirements to 15,000 psi without

Our Hydril Pressure Control variable rams (HVRs) are
designed to securely and reliably close and seal on a wide
range of pipe sizes.

Universal seal-off
The HVR has a universal seal-off feature that is especially
useful on a drill string that does not have a constant Variable ram
diameter over its length or when multiple diameters of drill
pipe are used. Two BOPs with variable rams can be used on
a tapered string to provide a backup for all drill-pipe sizes.
This application eliminates having one pipe ram for small
diameter pipe and one for large diameter pipe.

If a BOP stack is assembled with a blind or blind shear ram


and two sets of HVRs, the HVRs will seal over the BOP’s
complete range providing the backup seal-off capability
needed on a tapered string. Our Hydril Pressure Control
variable ram is therefore ideally suited to subsea use by VARIABLE RAM ASSEMBLIES
