Revolutionary Preaching in Public Places

sannyasa kariya thake parvata-gahvare

tumi prabhu! rakha tare harmyera marmare

sannyasa kariya - taking vows of renunciation; thake - staying; parvata - of

mountains; gahvare - in caves; tumi - you; prabhu - master; rakha - keep; tare -
them; harmyera - of mansions; marmare - in marble.

A sannyasi traditionally renounces everything of the world and goes off to live in
mountain caves. But you, O Master, keep your sannyasis in luxurious marble
mansions.

visayira darsane haya visera bhaksana

tumi prabhu! “lata”-“vilate” dao darasana

visayira - of sense gratifiers; darsane - by seeing; haya - it is; visera - of poison;

bhaksana - drinking; tumi - you; prabhu - O master; lata-vilate - to British
governors of Indian provinces; dao - you give; darasana - view of yourself.

A renunciant is traditionally forbidden to look upon a sense enjoyer, for that is like
drinking poison; but you, O Master, deliberately visit British governors of Indian
provinces just to give them your darsana.

hindura mandire mana mleccha-yavane

sabha-pati ka’re tare vasao sadane

hindura - of the Hindus; mandire - in the temple; mana - forbidden; mleccha-

yavane - meat-eaters and Muslims; sabha-pati - chairman; ka’re - making; tare -
them; vasao - you seat; sadane - in the assembly.

The mlecchas, or meat-eaters, and ydvanas, or Muslims, are traditionally forbidden

to enter Hindu temples, yet you honor them as chairmen of the board and seat them
prominently in the assembly of devotees.
 samudrera pare yaoya nisedha hindure
tumi kintu pathao bhakta tara-o o-pare

samudrera pare - beyond the ocean; yaoya - causing to travel; nisedha - forbidden;
hindure - for the Hindus; tumi - you; kintu - but; pathao - you send; bhakta -
devotees; tara-o - of it [the ocean]; o-pare - beyond.

Hindus are traditionally forbidden to travel across the ocean; but boldly you send
your devotees overseas, to preach there on your behalf.

kalira sahara “mana” guru-upadesa

tumi kintu thaka setha asesa-visesa

kalira - of Kali-yuga; Sahara - city; mana - forbidden; guru-upadesa - teachings

of the acaryas; tumi - you; kintu - but; thaka - you stay; setha - there; asesa-visesa -
perpetually.

In the horrible cities corrupted by Kali-yuga, the instructions of bona-fide spiritual

preceptors are considered taboo by the populace, but you intentionally spend all
your time there.

nirjane cahila bhakta gopha karibare

svikara nahila taha tomara vicare

nirjane - in seclusion; cahila - desired; bhakta - the devotees; gopha - hide;

karibare - to do; svikara - acceptance; nahila - have not; taha - that; tomara - your;
vicare - in judgement.

Some devotees want to hide in a secluded place to quietly perform confidential

bhajana, but in your view such selfish behavior is totally unacceptable.

ye-khanete loka-sangha besi parimane

tomara pracara-karya dekhita’ se-khane
ye-khanete - at which place; loka-sangha - assembly of people; besi - very much;
parimane - in measurement; tomara - your; pracara-karya - activities of preaching;
dekhita’ - is visible; se-khane - at that place.

Wherever there are the densest populations, your preaching activities are most
visibly present.

landanete “chatravasa” karibare cao

paripati yate haya se katha bujhao

landanete - in London; chatravasa - youth hostel; karibare - to make; cao - you

want; paripati - orderly arrangement; yate - by which; haya - is; se katha - that
topic; bujhao - you make known.

In London you want to make a youth hostel for travelers. You explain that it must
be organized in a first-class manner.

mleccha-dese “chatravasa” hari-katha-tare

e saba marmera katha ke bujhite pare

mleccha-dese - in the land of meat-eaters; chatravasa - youth hostel; hari-katha-

tare - for the purpose of discussions on Lord Hari; e - this; saba - all; marmera - of
the meaning; katha - topic; ke - who; bujhite - to understand; pare - is able.

In the land of meat-eating barbarians, a student hostel for preaching hari-katha! Who
can possibly comprehend the significance of these things?

e saba viruddha artha samadhana kara

khela nahe hetudera "na” kada “cha” kada

e - this; saba - all; viruddha - contradictory; artha - meaning; samadhana - solution;

kara - to do; khela - act of trifling; nahe - not; hetudera - of a charlatan; na kada
cha kada - petty and careless handling.

The reconciliation of all these apparently contradictory policies is not for the
entertainment of foolish speculators.
