6-Step Cold Email Checklist

Step 1: From Line


Does it show clearly who I am?
Do I seem genuine?
Do I seem professional?
Does it convey all the information I want it to?
Is it relevant for my prospect base?
Is it kept in a similar style to the rest of my message?

Step 2: Subject Line


Is it focused on the prospect?
Does it make a good first impression?
Does it cover only one point?
Is it related to the email contents?
Does it give my addressee a context why they received the email?
Doesn’t it sound salesy?
Does it look and sound casual?
Does it set the right tone for the rest of the email?
Would I open that myself?

Step 3: Introduction
Does it give them a sense that I care about them?
Does it trigger a feeling I want them to associate with my company?
Does it match the tone of the rest of my email?
Does it mention their work/article/comment that changed my view on an issue?
Does it say one good thing about their business (that I genuinely mean)?
Is it logical in the context of the subject line and the pitch?
Isn’t it too formal/informal?
Can it make it even shorter?

Step 4: The Pitch
Is it relevant to the prospect?
Does it resonate with the prospect’s needs?
Is it customized for a specific group of prospects?
Does it feature a possible solution to some problems the prospect may be
facing in their work?
Does it present any value to the prospect?
Is it focused on specific benefits?
Don’t I talk about my product too much?
Can I switch some of the I’s for you’s?
Is it coherent with the rest of the email, especially the intro and the call to
action?

Step 5: Call to Action


Does it express the purpose of my email?
Is it clear what I want the addressee to do after closing the email?
Can it be expressed in fewer words?
Is it logically tied to the rest of the email copy?

Step 6: Signature
Do I link to my website and relevant social media profiles?
Did I include my full name and company name?
Did I include my company address?
Isn’t it too long?
Does it look good in various email clients?
If it’s HTML, is it neatly organized?
