Learning Task 1. Making Connections.

1. Analysis of set of pictures linking to acid rain.

a. What effect does acid rain has on limestone or marble statues? A chemical reaction occurs when
acidic rainwater falls on limestone. The reaction produces new, soluble substances. Rainwater,
especially in combination with atmospheric gases, can result in the dissolution of the marble or
limestone, creating higher levels of salt movement within the microstructure.

b. What effect does acid rain has on plant growth? Acid deposits decrease essential nutrients like
calcium and cause aluminum to be released into the soil, making it hard for plants to absorb water.
Learning Task 2. Analyzing the issue.

1. What Natural processes can contribute to acid rain?

 The Natural process that can contribute to acid rain is Volcanic Emissions. Volcanoes release
acid-producing gases into the atmosphere, leading to higher levels of acid rain.

2. How is acid rain produced?

 Acid rain produced when sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the atmosphere
and carried by wind and air currents. Sulfuric and nitric acids are formed when SO2 and NOX
combine with water, oxygen, and other molecules. After mixing with water and other
substances, they fall to the ground.

3. What adverse effect can acid rain pose on living organisms and its environment?

 Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide emissions can lead to health problems such as cough,
asthma, headache, eye irritation, runny nose, and throat irritation.

4. Who should be responsible for cleaning up the pollution problem?

 Humans should be the one who responsible for solving the pollution problem.     Every human has
a responsibility to maintain the environment and protect the planet from further destruction.

5. What measures are taken to address the problem?

 When dealing with a problem, we must consider each individual's perspective and point of view
on the issue. It's also important to understand the problem's primary cause and the factors that
affect it. Let's consider the opinions of those who are most affected by the problem.
