CHEMISTRY

WEEK of NOVEMBER 1, 2010

Monday November 1, 2010: Objectives: Students will describe an atom. Describe Democritus
atomic philosophy and Dalton’s atomic Theory. Demonstrate an understanding of whole
number ratios. List the three major subatomic particles and their charges, describe protons,
neutrons, electrons and cathode rays. Determine effect of charged particles on each other.

Agenda: Complete notes on sections 4.1 and 4.2. Complete practice on 4.1 and practice 1-5 on
section 4.2. Discuss science fair projects. HOMEWORK: Page 108 writing activity : Explanatory
paragraph.

Tuesday November 2, 2010: Objectives: Describe the Rutherford experiment and explain how it
showed that atoms have a tiny nucleus at their centers. Determine atomic number, number of
protons, number of electrons, number of neutrons and mass number of given elements,
identify groups and periods on the periodic table.

Agenda: Complete notes on 4.3. Finish section 4.2 practice and section 4.3 practice.
HOMEWORK: Handouts 4.1 and 4.2

Wednesday November 3, 2010: DDI

Thursday November 4, 2010: Objectives: Determine the identity of elements from given
notations, describe protons, neutrons and electrons, identify atoms in given groups and
periods.

Agenda: Take Standardized test prep on page 125, go over unit 3 assessment. HOMEWORK:
Study unit 4.

Friday November 5, 2010: Objective: Score 70% or higher on open ended quiz over Unit 4.

Agenda Take open ended quiz, discuss science fair. Homework: study for unit 4
assessment

Today  
This week we will cover Chapter 5: Gases. Use of the gas laws involvea lot of algebra.
Honework will consist of the chapter 5 syllabus problems. Remember you must study 1 hour a
night, you must continually review the old material.Theweeekly lesson planis attached.

Due: Nov 10  
On Monday we will go over the chapter 4 review. Study and complete chapter4 syllabus
problems. Tuesday will be the chapter 4 assessment with emphasis on redox reactions. On
wednesday we will go over a basic review of moles, formula writing and equations. The plan for
the week is attached.

Due: Nov 5  
We will be finishing chapter 4. Spend extra time studying balancing redox reactions in ch. 4.
Complete syllabus problems on ch. 4. On Friday we will begin Gases (CH. 5).

Attached is weekly plan.

Due: Oct 29  
This week we will be working on precipitation reactions and neutralization reactions. We will
take an assessment on these topics on Thursday October 28. We will also be working on
precipitation stoichiometry.

HOMEWORK: Work on syllabus problems Ch. 4. Try to complete each section as we cover it in
classbut leave precipitation stoichiometry until we finish neutralization reactions. As always you
must studyat least 1 hour every night to be successful!
Due: Oct 21  
Continue reviewing stoichiometry with limiting reagent and solutions. Assessment is Tuesday.
Continue on the chapter 4 syllabus problems for homework. We will begin studying precipitation
reactions in sections 4.4, 4.5,and 4.6 AS ALWAYS YOU MUST STUDY AT LEAST 1 HOUR
EVERY NIGHT TO BE SUCCESSFUL!
Due: Oct 15  
We will begin Chapter 4 this week. We will also continue reviewing stoichiometry, limiting
reagent and percent yield. YOU MUST STUDY 1 HOUR EVERY NIGHT MINIMUM1 The
written homework is the syllabus assignment for Chapter 4> work the problems for each
sectionas we cover the section in class.
Due: Oct 11  
Assessment on chapters 1 - 3 will be given Tuesday. On Monday we will review everything.
After assesment we will begin chapter 4. You should work on syllabus problems from chapter 4
for homework. Study at least 1 hour every night. Constantly review the table of polyatomicions.
Due: Oct 1  
Begin Chapter 3 syllabus assignment and complete by friday October 1, 2010. STUDY 1 HOUR
EVERY NIGHT TO RAISE YOUR ASSESSMENT GRADES!
Due: Sep 27  
Remember to be successful you must study 1 hour every night. On Monday complete the chapter
2 assignment onthe syllabus and Tuesday through Thursday work onthe Chapter 3 syllabus
assignment.
Due: Sep 17  
Complete handouts. Study every night. Monday handout 1.3, Tuesday handout 1.4, Wednesday
Vocabulary handout, Thursday write summary of chapter 1 objectives and Friday study for
chapter 1 quiz.
